2000 AC SR5 V8/4WD Frame replace by Toyota May 2011
    Hello,
I have a 2000 Tundra that i just purchased with bad under truck bed support rails. The sides and bed are in good shape.

My question, what would be a fair price for a company to remove the bed, flip it over remove the old supports rails, fabricate and install new rails and remount the bed.

    Thanks

If the bed support rails are fucked, what condition is the frame in? Frame rot is the #1 killer of these trucks. And usually when the bed supports are shot, the frame is worse, to the point of being unsafe to drive. People who don't know about it often come here wishing they knew before purchase.

I've also got a 2000 that had the frame recall, and my original bed was swiss cheese a couple years after buying it. I ended up finding a replacement that I wouldn't even call rust-free for $700, and it was still a big improvement. Not exactly a screaming deal considering the support rails were still pretty rough, but there's a big premium for clean ones if you're in the Northeast.

That being said, finding a shop to do that entire job including welding and re-assembly could probably get way past that price range. If you find a donor bed, the job itself is pretty straightforward. Hardest part will probably be coaxing out the 6 bed bolts with enough heat and patience not to snap them. And of course transportation logistics.

If you can rally a few friends on the burly side of the spectrum it's doable. My setup involved a pulley in a tree which I would not recommend as much lol.

We've seen replacements rust out as quickly as 3-4yrs, though

It lasted 11 years before needing replacement. Replacement frame is 13 years old. If you ever want a sanity check or advice on how to keep the one you've got from rotting out, share some pics of what you've got. We're pretty good at spotting cover-ups, you'd be shocked at how often it happens. One guy came in here with expanding foam cut flush with the frame and painted.

This guy from yesterday thought he had a great frame also. Only to lift an apron up front and fine a huge portion of his frame missing.

Truck started out in Florida, at one point was in Illinois but is currently in Indiana. I'll post pictures of the underside tomorrow.

However, I did receive a price of $1,400 today for the above work (from a very respectable local company) plus replacing the leaf spring u-bolts/ bolts and bottom plate.
