Radiator fiasco

Kinda regretting touching my truck fluids today....
I did both diffs, transfer case, serpentine belt & air filters with no issue

Lastly I decided to do the radiator
Purged it at the radiator & found a 2nd valve near the oil filter
Around 2 gallons came out
I refilled with 1.75 gallons
Fired up the truck & waited 15 mins for it to burp (with fill cap off)
No burp
Went in the cab & found the temp gauge at 3/4 ways up
Also no hot air from heater

Wtf!
Any thoughts or help would be great!
Worst case it's going to the dealer

I talked with my auto mechanic buddy
He said it sounds like I have a air pocket in the system in the vicinity of the thermostat &/or water pump.....any thoughts?
Any suggestions on removing the air bubble?

 

Park it on an incline, nose up, to try and work the air bubble up to the rad cap. Sometimes it's as simple as lifting the nose with a jack for a minute and running the motor. I've had the same issue with a few vehicles over the years and that has almost always worked (maybe once I can remember it not working perfectly).

I always leave the cap on them when things start to warm, I squeeze the radiator hose.

Recheck and top off level, repeat if necessary.

 

Did you fill it through the radiator? If you only filled it through the reserve tank, there’s air trapped in the system. You got to fill it through plug on radiator and bleed as much air as you can by squeezing hoses. Toyota calls it a drain cock. It has a non reusable o-ring. Believe it’s either a 3/8” or 1/2” ratchet head to remove.


The 3rd gen tundra radiator technically doesn’t have a radiator cap. #4 is the drain cock.



Seems like you’re changing all fluids in your truck. Just a heads up, the coolant system for the engine and intercooler are 2 different system. The intercooler system is 4.6 qts. The engine coolant system is 13.1 qts.

Easily burped the radiator system with removal of the plastic radiator cap
