Pull trans cooler off a 2016, bolt it on a 2021?

    I own both years. Just wondering if it was feasible to swap the cooler onto the newer truck.

    Yes, I took my 2008 OEM COOLER and put it on my 2021, i purchased all new lines from Toyota.

    Stock, with a few cosmetic mods.
    Direct bolt in or did you have to fab brackets?

    Direct bolt in, I had to bend the tab you see in the photos. I have to dig up some pictures. But I also had to cut that black air curtain to fit back on.

    Bigger job coming from a '16. The OEM cooler isn't standalone like the early ones. It's integrated with the AC condenser.

    He can run the cooler in series with the factory radiator

    SO 2008-15 coolers you just need the cooler itself and new lines and thats it? How hard was the job? any additional fluid?

    They switched way earlier than that. I know a 2010 that had the exact same combo condenser/cooler as my '16. You also need the thermostat unit on the transmission which besides the hard lines going forward is the only thing really coming off the other truck.

    If it were my truck I'd just get new parts instead of cannibalizing an older one, unless it's a salvage thing. Why hobble the older one. You're buying new gaskets for both anyway. Plus it won't have the different shift program with more aggressive TC lockup that the cooler-less units supposedly have to try to keep temps down. Aren't there kits out there with all the parts and an aftermarket cooler?

    you can buy a kit for about $1200 or can piece one together for around $500-1000. Finding a low mile tundra at a junkyard is super easy and cheap to swap it over- save enough to get it OV tuned!

    Agreed with the above. If you have some scrap steel or aluminum lying around to make your own mounting brackets - you can easily piece together your own transmission cooler kit using this 15 row cooler: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TO67N8I?ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title - for under $700. I just did this and installed it on my ‘21 a couple months ago. PM me if you’re interested in a parts list.

    First I've heard of different TC lockup programming on the non-cooled trucks. Does anyone have any info/specifics? Several of us have adjusted TC lockout with HP Tuners, it would be interesting to see Toyota's baseline.
