I know I am late to the 2.5 game but what should I consider for the 5000 miles maintenance on my 2021? I plan to do it at dealer as is free for the first 2 years and the clock start ticking on this truck on Oct. 2023.

Do it yourself. Nothing like changing your own hot oil while drinking cold beer.

They'll probably do the 10,000 mile service detailed in the manual. Nothing more for free. But, that's all you'll need.

Are you the guy that bought the brand new '21 in October? If that's the case, they'll probably only want to do the 5,000 mile service. That DOES NOT include changing the oil. But you should have that done.

^^ Def change the oil, even if they make you come out of pocket for it. $70ish is worth it.

Yeah that's me. I did have an oil change right at 100 miles on ODO before driving it outta of the dealership since is sat there for few years. They also changed the battery as it didn't pass the test. They did a comprehensive inspection before driving it off the dealership. I am almost 5000 miles and trying to get on the regular schedule as I am pretty religious about maintenance.

For sure, money is not an issue, I will do what needs to be done regardless of what they cover or not.

An oil change and the 5k service should be all you need. You might be able to talk them into the 10k service. They do only allow a certain number of oil changes in Toyota's "FREE" maintenance for two years deal however.

Don't trust ANY dealer and don't let them put garbage 0W-20 oil in your truck. Especially in the summer. Just forget about their free maintenance program.

Thanks for the guidance partner. If not 0W-20 then what oil should I consider given I am Texas and it gets really hot? I don't mind paying for the right things.

5w-30 synthetic every 5-6k, and drain and fill the tranny with Toyota WS every 30-40k. Check out the Valvomax oil drain plug as well. Good luck with your truck maintenance!

Btw let's see some pictures... do you know why it was at the dealership for so long... 21 tundra myself build Oct 20 took possession 10/26/2020 I just went over 42k miles.

If you have not yet, reach out to Jerry about an extended warranty. I bent an LCA recently and my dealer is replacing both LCAs under the Platnium extended warranty. That alone more than pays for the warranty I got.

Would 5W-30 void or impact the warranty from Toyota? Looks like no brainer to go with 5W-30

Yeah, this truck was either built or delivered in April of '21. Can't remember which.
