    This is my 1st tundra
    (Tacoma dude for years)
    Enjoying it a lot!

    I'm over 90k (purchased jan11 2022)
Checked the service manual for fluid swap timing....
According to the book, the only fluid to swap out is radiator & intercooler
    at 100k

I'm looking at the following fluids:
    Front diff
    Transfer case
    Rear diff
    Tranny
    Brakes

Any reason to mess with these fluids?
    Truck runs great atm

As far as tranny, has anyone done a pan drop, strainer swap & refill?
    Any advice (if so)?

Also, anyone know how much rad fluid to have on hand for swap?

    Thanks yall!

The owners manual under fluid specifications/capacities is a great place to start.

I think taking it to the dealer and asking them to perform all recommended maintenance for the miles driven would be appropriate. Obviously change intervals for engine oil and transmission service are much discussed topics. Probably/perhaps prudent to have the transmission serviced. Do you plan to continue putting miles on at that rate? How long do you plan to keep the truck?
Is this a work vehicle? Is a pickup truck required for all the miles driven? It's a fairly expensive vehicle. Your trade in/resale value will certainly be very diminished. You will be pushing a half million miles after ten years.......

I do a ton of driving too, mostly highway. I’m sitting at 70k and truck looks and runs perfect. I just had dealer do front diff/rear diff/transfer case. I think they charged me a little over $300 for that service. I am a good customer so I think they gave me a deal. I do oil every 5k. Tranny shifts perfect so I don’t know if I would have them touch that just yet

It's good to hear from an owner with 90k miles on their truck. It seems like people on YouTube love to publish videos that simply "bash" the new Tundra. I have almost 10k miles on my 2024....and hope to keep it until it hits at least 200k miles. I know trade value will be diminished at that point....but at that point my truck will already be paid off for 5 years. If you continue to make the truck payment to your savings accounts, you can almost pay cash for the next one!!

I checked the manual prior to making this post (im a taco guy, recently jumped to the tundra world & with my 2013 tacoma it wanted these fluids changed regularly, hence my post)....it doesn't even mention changing diff, transfer case or tranny fluid

& nice one on the grass under my truck comment....imma use that one cause it's totally accurate

I put 400k miles on my 2013 taco in 9 yrs
So yes I drive alot & anticipate the same for my tundra
They say if the new auto goes 100k with no major failure, especially toyotas/Lexus, it will likely never die
Do note, the current 3.5l TT powerplant in the gen3 tundra was benchmarked & tested in a Lexus (LS500) for many yrs prior to the new gen3 update....so those who question its reliability or longevity can chill out

losing value by high mileage comment-
I bought my 2013 taco brand new for $35k in 2012 at Santa Cruz Toyota in Cali
    Drove it 400k miles
    IMG_20210103_184721300.jpg
Sold it for $10k to a guy in SF in 2021
It was running great, just needed the timing chain tensioner swapped out
I did not want to deal with it
So I sold it & rocked a voodoo blue 2021 taco for 1 yr & then jumped into my current tundra in Jan 22

Toyotas hold there value really well in two ways
    1. Buy brand new, put 20-30k miles on it, trade in for new model....you will eat $5-10k when you do this, but you always push the newest & safest auto with factory warranty
    2. Buy brand new & drive the shit outta it,
Then sell 10-20 yrs later....you'll get back 33-50% of your money back
Example- my dad bought a 2003 prerunner taco brand new for $25k, drove it 150k miles in 20 yrs, & is about to finally sell it for $14k

I don't know how long I plan to own the truck, honestly Im not sure if I'll be alive tomorrow let alone what's that far ahead
    I live for the day
    & today I have a tundra
    I love it

& I would never let the idiots at the dealership touch my autos...id rather trade-in the auto before I let a $20/hr jarhead touch it
Don't even get me started on the dozen+ times I trusted a dealership with a ride & regretted it (like my 2019 c7 vette, damn airport Chevy in Medford totally trashed my interior...ended up selling it immediately after that....f the dealer for service, they suck fat hairy balls)....I do all my own maintenance except tire swaps, my buddy eliah at pointS in Kfalls takes good care of me & my tire needs

I'm confident on doing most of the fluid swaps. But the tranny one is a bit of a nail bitter/makes me wonder if I should just let it go....would be great to look at those magnets in the pan though so I can get a sense of the transmissions longevity

It will be the last thing I touch on my punchline, that's forsure

Let me know how your diff fluids look and the magnet. I was curious to see how mine came out but I was also getting the gas tank recall done do I had to leave the truck there

I have checked youtube for sparkplugs and tranny fluid change and nada- Diffs seem to be pretty self-explanitory though so that is good...

I did a flush on my wife's forester so it isnt as scary as you might think. Car Care Nut youtbue has good stuff- but no how to videos for the tundra just yet

Diffs and transfer should be straight, forward.

tranny and coolant “should” be straight forward?? Not the same but my wife’s rav (2018) coolant was a drain and fill. Super easy. Tranny the same, I drained and refilled the amount I,drained. You’re “supposed” to do the level check with the tube overflow but I figured we drove the rav for 96k and it was fine so my thought was the fluid level was ok.

I think Ryan mentioned the new tundras have a different procedure for the tranny service that required specialized equipment. . I did watch a YouTube video on Toyota transmissions that used an adjustable “tube” that compensated for different temperatures. Webber auto school,I think.

maybe someone with experience will chime in.

I, don’t know if a simple drain and fill for coolant will suffice or not.

brakes I just replace pads first time then pads and rotors the, second time.(front). Backs I’ve done just pads I’ve never flushed brake fluid ever but I do remove and clean/grease the slider pins twice a year when I swap winter tires

I'd do a drain and fill on the transmission, the only tricky part is getting the level perfect. Cheap insurance. You really don't want to buy a new 10 speed must be close to $10k. If you're comfortable with the dealer let them do it they have the correct scan tool to get the temperature just right when adjusting fill level.

    I appreciate the concern
But I hate the dealer &
I really wanna do the whole procedure
    1.Drain & Pull the pan
    2.Inspect magnets & clean pan
    3.Replace strainer & o-ring
    4. Refill hopefully utilizing some on board
method (like the tacoma) that allows you to see the ideal tranny temp window for topping off/level draining the tranny in the dash cluster

I did new front rotors & pads around 50k
They are holding up well now that I'm not in turbo land all the time, unlike the 1st 50k miles....I guess I was enjoying all that power
    A little too much....hehehe

I have not touched the rears
Planning to pass some fresh brake fluid through the lines real soon

Swaping brake fluid is pretty easy with 2 people.....Holla if you want more details/specifics

I ended up buying 3 gallons of the pink stuff
Hopefully it's enough....will update this value after I do the radiator & intercooler coolant swap for the forum
I'm at 90k atm, so over the next 60-90 days I'll knock out all the fluid swaps, trany last, if I do it

appreciate the offer for info. I have an idea how to do it (person pump and hold break while I crack the bleeder) I just for some reason have never done it.

I did actually buy a brake fluid moisture checker from Amazon and it said my 12 year old fluid was fine. (No longer have the truck). Now, I’m not sure how accurate the meter was…… but I’ve never had an issue.

but I’m pretty anal about maintenance and fluids so I really should flush the brake fluid.

Have you replaced your spark plugs? Curious what it cost...apparently due every 40k miles

There is a procedure to verify proper transmission temp. The temp will show on the instrument cluster.

    Nitrogen filled tires!
Think about transmission service - drain the pan and replace an equal amount. Presume the transmission came from the factory/dealer with the proper amount of fluid (level checked or however). If you drain/measure/refill at a cold (non run) temp. what is the down side? Do three drain and fills over a months time. Will your transmission and fluid be any worse off. Remember you only do cold, don't add
more than you took out, and use oem replacement fluid. ?? :nuclear:
