Not everyone gets along all the time. And generally I'm okay with that. I tend to accept others freedom of choice in regard to a long list of things. I mean hey, we do live in what's always been referred to as a melting pot so I've always tried my best to accept people for what they bring to the pot. Whether or not I agree with it I get that, as a society we all have to work together on some level or another in the end.

However, when you live next to others who are so far from your views and the choices they make boil your blood what is it that gets the boil roiling?

My neighbors drive me nuts because they think it's cute to feed my dogs. We live on acre plus parcels and mine is entirely fenced in and I love that my dogs can roam freely amongst my large property. But my neighbor has trained my dogs to know that when ever she's outside they run to her because she feeds and treats them. I've chatted with her before about this but she can't help herself, she just love dogs so much she can't control herself. I know that she thinks she's being so kind to my dogs but it drives me crazy because if she's outside they lose touch with my commands. Am I the only one out there thinks it's generally wrong to treat to feed neighbors dogs when I can hear them being called back by their owner? How far out of line am I? I guess it's time for another talk because I've had it with her.

What do your neighbors do that drives you nuts?

Maybe try putting the shock collar on your neighbor for training, instead of the dogs??

Have another talk with the idiot.
If it doesn't work call the local cops and have them talk to her..

I guess she means well, but you've asked her to stop.
She needs to honor your wishes..

    Good luck..

    Two things:

First, you could make a criminal complaint for trespassing as putting the food on your property without consent, and even being told to stop, is likely actionable.

Second, be happy your neighbor likes your dogs, and is not trying to poison them, as there are some fucked up people out there. There was a guy in SLC arrested multiple times for having sex with his neighbor's dog. You can't make this shit up.

I would follow-up and tell your neighbor that you are carefully controlling their food intake, both calories and ingredients and also for training purposes. Tell them you prefer they not feed your dogs, but if they are going to, find an expensive high end treat and tell her to only feed them that specific treat. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084Z199XK

Make it clear that feeding your dogs isn't allowed. They are not hers, she doesn't get a say in the matter.

My dog had multiple vet visits for "garbage gut" bordering on pancreatitis because people didn't listen when I said she cannot have people food. I had to become an asshole to drive the point home. It's my dog, I love her, I pay her vet bills, and anyone who can't follow that will be told in no uncertain terms to keep the f**k away from my dog. I don't care if you are "being nice" or "can't help yourself" you don't get to feed other people's pets without permission.

I'd also suggest working on training the dogs to not take any food items from anyone but you or those you designate. Not easily done, but it is possible.

If and when we move, my top requirement is going to be that I don't want to be able to see or hear my neighbours or to smell their marijuana or cigar smoke.

Things my neighbours do that annoy me:

The guys on one side (renters, of course) are always having parties that involve screaming while my kids are sleeping. They also smoke weed in their garage or back yard constantly and it stinks up my yard so much that I don't want my kids playing outside. At least they recently started cutting their grass and shoveling their snow regularly after having been here a couple years.

The guys on the other side of us are really nice and quiet. Super nice. No issues with them at all other than he likes to park his truck across the street right where I like to park our third car. Since they only have two vehicles, I don't see why he can't leave his truck on the driveway.

The family behind us are also really nice but they let their crab apple tree grow over the fence so then I feel like the bad guy for trimming it so my dog doesn't get sick from eating the rotten apples that fall into our yard. The husband also smokes pretty smelly cigars from time to time and the wife laughs like a frickin hyena whenever they're out around their fire pit late at night in the summer when we're trying to fall asleep.

The old couple next to them spends all their time outside in the summer. No issue with that in itself but the guy is so loud and angry all the time, fighting with his wife or shouting about things that upset him. Someone else near us had to run a chainsaw for an hour one afternoon and he spent the rest of the day going on about how he couldn't enjoy his own yard. Yeah, I wonder what that must be like.

We live across from a storm water pond, which is nice for a few reasons, including lots of parking, theoretically. However, between our 3 cars and having babysitters over a lot, the weed smokers' 3 cars and my other neighbour's truck, it's pretty busy in front of our place. The rest of the street is pretty much empty most of the time so, naturally, the guy who lives around the corner parks his work truck right in front of our place when he's in town.

As to your neighbour feeding your dog, there's no way that's acceptable. Our dog has pancreatitis and has to be on a very strict low fat diet, with no treats or human food of any kind. I wouldn't want anyone who doesn't know him feeding my dog. I'd also be concerned if she knows all the foods that can be toxic to dogs.

Just trespass them. At my old house we had the same problem with a neighbor tossing treats over the fence. It got ugly after that.

We were very fortunate to have incredible neighbors in our previous house that we lived in for over 15 years. They’re both dear friends to us to this day - in fact we probably spend as much time together now as we did then. They moved to a farmette and we visit frequently to help with chores, the animals and enjoy each others company.

We bought my in-laws house (the house that my wife grew up in) when they got older and needed some help. They live in a nice in-law suite that was put on. When we moved, I wanted to keep the garage for my in laws car…..so needed a shed to store all of my tools and tractor, etc. We don’t have an HOA so I got a contractor to come and install a beautiful retaining wall and gravel pad on the side of the house behind shadow box fencing to place the shed. We had an Amish shed custom built and delivered to match the house perfectly. The day it gets installed we have the county inspector knock on the door and tell us that we are “out of compliance” because we didn’t file the proper paperwork. When I explained to him that we don’t have an hoa and I was unaware of this requirement he got really annoyed and basically said he was only there because a neighbor complained and he has to follow through. I spent $700 filing the proper ordinances and was denied each time. There is a “law” on the county that doesn’t allow side yard sheds (even though it’s hidden behind the fence) despite the fact that I lrovided clear examples in the same neighborhood of sheds placed in others side yards. He understood and replied “yeah but nobody has ever filed a complaint on them”. We had to pay to get the company come out and remove the shed and wait months for them to resell it at a loss. When all was said and done we lost close to $2k. I now have a gravel pad that I park my tractor under cover and a trailer. I took the fencing down so all the neighbors can see it. I am not that guy to report the other shed owners in the neighborhood but it definitely tainted the view of the neighbors from the jump. We are the family that shovels others driveways, takes leaves for the neighbors, etc. I keep a meticulous yard. I just thought it was very petty and backhanded. Knock on my door and express your problem to me and see how we can resolve it. Bit to call the county inspector on us and cost us that much money unnecessarily is ridiculous in my opinion. Needless to say there WILL be a shed out there eventually - just have to get talking to the right people

Yes that is an inappropriate she is doing that. The dogs are your property. You say what goes always. Ever since getting a dog again I have noticed lots of weird dynamics with people and dogs, what people fine acceptable, boundaries, etc.

At least your property isn’t a magnet for other dogs. We have had issues with multiple neighbors dogs. A couple I don’t mind as much, but it was amazing what the owners didn’t have energy or the care . I would be so embarrassed if my dog was on my neighbors property.

One neighbor in particular who I already hate ( hillbilly drinking, loud engines, loud sweating/screaming) has some sort of a hound dog. This dog charged my springer a couple times when she was just a puppy. I truly believe that changed my dog forever, and now she is reactive to other dogs. Working on it, but that changed her. I have had a few convod( me screaming get your fucking dog) and then talking to them. Has happened a few times.

we since fenced in the backyard, but if I am outside in the front yard with my daughter, I am always ready to choke that dog the fuck out if it comes charging when she’s out there. Came running over the other day, my wife grabbed my kid quick. I don’t trust it. Hell yesterday they had friends over and the dog came over other side of fence, my springer didn’t like that. Of course the owner didn’t have control.

Sorry about the rant, I just hate some people. Keep things off my property and don’t mess with it. That is my families safe spot in the world.

@OldGuy03 I'd have the talk again with the lady. Start off by thanking her for being so kind to your dogs, but be very firm that feeding them anything is not acceptable. Make up something about it messing with their stomach and you will be placing the "side effects" in her yard should she continue.

Sounds like you are holding a good deck in your hand. I would talk to the neighbors that have sheds like yours to start changing county "laws" or they will suffer the same fate at some point. It's not a threat...but a good possibility if it happened to you.

All great responses. I've already planned to go talk to her again and had also already looked into the laws of trespass. This talk will include the mention that if it continues, the police will be involved. And since we don't live in a municipality it will be the Sheriff.

With one of the dogs being a lab and highly food driven it's hard to train her to not accept treats from her. The other does listen if I'm outside with him, and won't go the the fence line if I tell him to come to me. The lab, well she's a lab.

After today, I'll be the neighbor they despise.

That’s ok. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m the grouchy crazy one too after our talks. Don’t care though, I know for a fact I am in the right.

If a dog is in your fenced area...game on. If you think that the dog is able to be controlled by you...drop it off at the local humane society.

I've kicked other people's off leash dogs before as they approach me. If your dog isn't under direct commands and is approaching my on leash dog with aggressive demeanor it'll get a swift kick to its ribs real quick. Especially if it's on my property.

Can’t get in. Reason we got the fence. We have yard outside of the fence though. Was good for awhile, they are getting lazy again though. I’m going to do something though.. no different from a wild animal to me if it’s acting aggressive on my property

I like what @ColoradoTJ has to say about this. Get a petition together to change the code. Although difficult, it's not altogether unattainable.

But I totally agree that's pretty weak for someone to do. Not many people these days want to talk about their grievances with others. They would rather get some authority involved first. And that is a societal downfall.

Yup. It’s unreal the lack of control I have seen. Stopped walking through town because people don’t have control of their dogs from running out.

My solution to neighbors staying up late having loud parties is to start mowing or running a pressure washer at the crack of dawn the next morning.
Nobody gets up as early as I do.

We had a mixed dog that would always wander over to our property, chase after our chickens and what not. I warned the owner that this was not acceptable four times. He recommended that I just pop him in the ass with a BB gun. I restrained my dog every time until the fifth and last time. Problem solved.

Loud party all the time neighbors are the worst.

Is it possible that if you occupy the spot across the street with another family car while your not parked in it? Basically rotating cars around to keep the spot for you when you want it for your truck?

Just be aware that you might encourage them to relocate leaving you with the possibility of having worse move in to the property.

Incredible he even recommended YOU do something. Put your damn dog on a tie out or something if you can’t be bothered to fix the problem.

I would write a letter to your neighbor regarding the feeding of your dogs. I would advise her that your dogs are on a special diet and that if she continues to feed them after you have asked her not to, that they WILL get sick and you WILL take them to the vet and she WILL be responsible for any costs relating to said bills. I would also advise her that your dogs are your private property and that you will involve the police if you see her and film her feeding your dogs again, and that if she is seen and filmed on your property she will be charged with trespassing. I would be quite aggressive about this stuff because if she gets bit by your dogs, you want to at least have some sort of report from the PD stating you had then involved and advised her to stop feeding them and to not go near them in the future!

Sometimes it just takes a stern word in writing to get people to back off and take you seriously. I trimmed some tree branches on a tree on MY property, but that was abutting the property line and my neighbor legit came to my door and screamed at me for a solid 20 minutes (he even tried to claim that I had to ask him for permission to trim or cut down any tree that was 15 FEET over on my property line), I should have just shut the door in his face, but I didn't. Anywho, after that I wrote him and his weirdo wife, they are both very strange, a long letter stating that if he ever came over here and screamed at me again that I would get a surveyor out here and I would cut every tree on that side of my property down and I would put up a fence. I also advised him that if I received any more harassment from either he or his wife, I would go to the town and force him to move his shed which was not the required 15 feet from the property line. Needless to say they have been nice as pie since then!! Thankfully all the other neighbors are both very nice and reasonable.

I'm planning on following up. And yes I am happy that she's not one of those psycho nuts who wants to poison or literally fuck my dogs. This world is definitely full of people who have really lost it.

Writing letters. Old school right here. I certainly like the style. But I'd rather go to their door to air my grievances. I'm stubborn like that.

Not sure about WY but in a lot of states you can have them criminally arrested for animal cruelty and trespassing. And when authority's ask if you want to press charges, yes is the answer. Proof of this would be evidence of them feeding your animals on your property and the vet visits to cure them. Thankfully my dogs don't have allergies or a severe condition that she is hurting them. But I'm tired of them running to her because she treats them. She getting a mouthful at 9am this am. I'm all jacked up on coffee and vibes right now.
