What options are available for the flex fuel models? Just swapping LEDs? It doesn't look like the Optitron is compatible.

I have a 2011 FF and the opitron works other than for some reason my DTE, Average mileage, and instant fuel mileage are not reading.

Really shouldn’t be mixing Flex Fuel clusters and non flex fuel trucks. Gas gauge range of operation is different.

Network messaging for Range, Instant and Avg Fuel Economy is probably different.

The cluster reads in the fuel injector pulse timing to determine fuel usage, it calculates fuel economy and range based off this and fuel remaining in tank.

If you truck is FF you need a FF cluster, if its no flex fuel you need a non flex cluster. You can’t mix and match.

you are accurate for certain years. But 2011 they used the same part numbers for FF and non ff. So your statement is accurate depending on the years.

Yeah I think it is something just wrong with the cluster. The tanin guys are looking into it for me.

According to TIS the changes took place 2012.

However, I have extensively worked with the clusters in these trucks and I am telling you it’s a bad idea to mix any of them up.

Crazy as it sounds but part numbers the same doesn’t mean EEPROM and firmware files match identically.

Trucks needs to see fuel injector message from ECM and Rpm message from ECM. With both of those it should be showing and calculating fuel info.

I have not dove deeply into a flex engine ecu but a very good chance it sends the fuel injector info out on a different address in the can bus.

The flex cluster could be looking for the fuel data message in the wrong spot. The flex ecu sends it on one address, the non flex on a different address.

I am assuming you have mixed then by the way, I don’t know that for sure.
