The way I am going to look at it from here on out, replace the ball joints every time I replace the timing belt. That way I know that both items are safe every 90,000 miles.

    That's a pretty big recall.

"The recall covers certain Toyota Tundra pickups and Lexus LX 600 SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years. Also included are 2023 and 2024 Toyota Sequoia SUVs.

Toyota said Wednesday that certain parts of the vehicles' automatic transmissions may not immediately disengage when shifted into neutral. That can transfer some engine power to the wheels. The vehicles could creep forward at low speeds on flat surfaces if the brakes aren't applied, increasing the risk of a crash."

If you're going to do the 14WA upgrade, it's probably best to order the calipers directly from either Jim Smola or Geoffrey Beers, this is unless you have someone that knows what they're doing shaving down the calipers.

I highly recommend the EPC Data website with your VIN plugged in for looking for parts and diagrams

Click on the link next to the 5/6 digit reference number for the diagram, and it will give you the full part number.

For instance, 43502M references the driver's wheel bearing in the diagram, when you click the link it provides the full part number of 90369-54002.

Toyota's own website is also decent at finding parts, albeit difficult because of the way it categorizes items.

Rockauto often has the factory part number posted on their site as cross reference for aftermarket options. I’ve looked parts up using the available part numbers I got from there before.

Echoing FGV on this one: Replace. Given it's such a high-stress part due to design, 100k is probably the max I'd be willing to put on it.

I think mine were done under recall at like 9k miles or something, in 2008 if memory serves. I'm at ~77k miles now, so 16 years and 68k miles later. I can say with confidence, I just replaced mine, and one of the loudest sporadic clunks I've been chasing was absolutely my driver front balljoint. Visually you can't tell, and it made no noise when I tested it while the wheel was on and truck was jacked at the LCA. But I was absolutely getting a periodic pop/clunk that I haven't heard again since I swapped out my LBJ. I've still got an annoying "spring shifting in a cup" clunking going on, both coming from the rear leaf, and possibly one or both coilovers. But the loudest clunk is gone.

Can you explain more? The kit with both LBJs part 04005-21134 seems to only be available at places like Orisman who always has a discount on them without the 25% off sale ($192), but adding it to the cart and going to checkout does not result in a better price with additonal %25 off listed like at Serratoyota. Serratoyota doesn't sell the LBJ kit but sells the LBJs separately, and adding them to the cart results in a separate 25% off line item and a net cost of $91.99/each for 43340-39485 and 43330-39605 and a total of about $184. Are you finding a place to get part 04005-21134 with both LBJs for $101?

Kk that does help narrow the tire selection down some. Purchase is right around the corner, so any extra personal insight is helpful.

Thinking about getting some new riding gear. I need white for the summer. And thinner material. I don't know about the price on that jacket though. Seems a little cheap, but reviews say it has great airflow. Need some actual riding pants too.

What is small vs large ball joint? What uses a small LBJ?!

My 2000 uses the earlier, smaller design.

00-03 use the smaller ball joint with M10 bolts and have a smaller shaft/ taper into the LCA. Believe the actual ball itself is smaller too. The bolts are spaced out in more of an even square pattern.

09/2003-06 use the bigger ball joint with M12 bolts and the bolts are spaced out rectangular.

And as we all know, a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square.

So manufacturer date of 5/03 uses the smaller?

...With these individual LBJ parts numbers?
x1 Driver Lower Ball Joint 43340-39356
x1 Passenger Lower Ball Joint 43330-39466
    x8 Bolt Flange 90080-10066 or ARP 663-1004

This truck currently has the black bolts (part 90119-10933) Toyota verified by VIN as we know are torqued at 37 ft. lbs.

Toyota also verified the recall kit by VIN is part number 04005-21134 with both LBJs.

So maybe the recall kit 04005-21134 with both LBJs has the individual smaller LBJs you note but would be paired with the alternative black bolts?

    That's very helpful, thank you.
I guess now I just need to figure out what other parts, if any, are necessary for me to order along with the bearings. I really wish Toyota sold this stuff in kits, because it's a lot to figure out when I don't know the first thing about these parts.

Check out motorcyclegear.com to see if they have anything on clearance that you like. I scored a nice Klim Marrakesh jacket of the previous generation for something like $120 off retail last year or year before. I always check them against others. For example, they had the Arai XD-4 helmet I use was on sale recently (still might be) but RMATV and Revzilla still had them full price.
