So, we picked up a project truck for my son's first truck.
It is a 2005 Tundra DC 4X4 Ltd with the 4.7. It has 233k miles on it and it has a number of issues that will need to be worked through.

    • The secondary air system has two codes - P0418 and P2445
    • It wont upshift when you are accelerating, you have to let off the throttle for it to shift
    • The carpet on the driver's side is very wet, it seems to be just water
    • It seems to have an exhaust leak on the DS of the engine when it is started cold
    • It has a clunk over bumps and a leaking CV joint on the PS - I have read about the ball joint issue...
    • The body is decent and the frame looks good
    • There must be a coolant leak, there is no evidence of a blown head gasket but the cooland gets low over time
    • There is no evidence that the timing belt has been done recently, or at all, so that and all related items are on the list

It seems to run well minus the issues we have some time to work on it before he is able to drive. Hopefully, it all comes together without too many surprises.

    Thank you guys!

I am just introducing our project. I have been reading through a number of threads related to the issues and will likely post about the progress and ask questions along the way. I wasn't specifically asking for solutions to all the issues I listed. This forum has done most of that work already.

However, I am open to comments if someone sees something they want to advise on.

Ah, misunderstood, but that thread should link to a few solutions. A/pillar windshield leak on driver’s side, which will eventually get into the fuse box or other wiring and corrode stuff, the coolant leak, etc.

The Builds/Projects forum for 1st gen is over here: https://www.tundras.com/forums/1st-gen-builds-2000-2006.22/

I think the thread being in here was maybe confusing for some.

Explain the upshift. If I’m right most of our trucks have wonky transmissions. Mine likes to take 2nd up to 3k before shifting depending on the grade/how much accel I’m giving it.

The truck will not upshift at all when you are on the throttle, if you let off of the throttle, it will upshift to the next gear. If I am right, this might be limp mode due to the SAIS failure...

This was my first thought as well. Classic low-fluid issue from other vehicles I’ve owned. But sealed tranny, so OP needs to understand the method to bring trans up to temp, then check fluid level, since 5AT has no dipstick.

pardon for what is probably an obvious question, but the builds forum is just more for showing what you're doing to your truck?

I should be further along, but I'm still such a newbie

I think the threads over there are for more-focused projects, I believe. It used to be, the forum mods moved threads dedicated to the progress on a single vehicle over into that projects subforum. If you started one over here and prefer it to go over there, you can ask any of the mods to migrate it.
