Our double pane windows will ice up in winter when it gets really cold. Like, 1" thick and 3" high from the sill up...

What do the window reps around you say?

One of my buddies built his own storm windows to help mitigate the heat losses. They work well for the winter time.

get a dehumidifier and run it directly into your basement drain. Or an hrv but dehumidifier is inexpensive

sounds like you have a newer house that’s pretty sealed up.

They say its a common issue here due to our wild temp swings and that triple pane helps. They could just be trying to sell me new windows though...

Yeah, house was built in the last 15 years. We run a dehumidifier in the main rooms, it helps but doesnt solve the issue.

Got the countertop over the washer and dryer finally done (mostly). Need to finish the apron under the window sill and a short “backsplash” still. The top is held in place by four 1-1/4” dia rare earth magnets epoxied into the underside, so it’s relatively easy to remove to get to the the connections out pull out the appliances.

Talk about a very useful improvement. I've got a long list of "honey do" projects that include laundry room shelving and most likely flooring.

All of the cabinets in our house suffered from a gooey, sticky cabinet bumper degradation issue. A friend told me that this is because the oils from the wood break down the bumpers over time. I guess that makes sense why the laminate cabinets in the last much older house didn't have this problem and these real wood cabinets do. So I spent a few hours with a razor blade, WD-40 to desticky, isopropyl alcohol to surface prep, and applying new cabinet bumpers in the kitchen, two bath vanities, and laundry room that all had same cabinets from when the house was built. I got about 4oz of sticky gunk off in total, and applied about 140 new bumpers! Super dull topic, I know, but the increase in quality of life is off the charts! I would highly recommend this $6 fix if you're experiencing sticky cabinets

You talking about those silly little plastic bumpers in the corners of cabinets?

    My cabinets aren't sticky.

Got a new shingle roof last week. In the process the roofer splintered some of the enclosed porch roof plank ceiling while driving nails in and dropped some debris into the porch. There is some cleanup on the porch needed and the ceiling needs a repaint now. Wife flipping out. I think in hindsight it might have been hard to completely avoid due to the impact of walking up there and driving nails in either by hand or with a gun. I watched it happen for a minute before taking it up with the foreman. Really didn't see nails come through where the splinters came off. Just impact seemed to do it. Plywood over top of it all might not even have completely stopped it. This is not a plywood or a 2x4 roof, it's thin wood planks.

It is still structurally sound, just a little uglier when looked at from inside. Roofing co gave us back 500. Wife was demanding a thousand for cleanup and repaint of the ceiling but I think that would have turned it pretty antagonistic. My house is 115 years old. I have come to learn in the 12 years I have lived in it that there is sometimes collateral damage in an adjoining area from heavy work and it doesn't always mean the contractor is solely at fault.

Perhaps, but a good contractor that is familiar with the needs of your house may have been able to avoid the collateral damage using different products or techniques. Often that costs more money though, and few are willing to pay the additional.

I honestly think the only way to do that for sure would have been to rip out the porch ceiling and sell us new sheathing/ceiling. I'm not convinced hand nailing would have fully prevented it. I already saw a couple splinters drop that morning when they were walking across it ripping the old stuff off, I just figured that would be the end of it.

Neither company that gave me quotes brought up special measures on my porch and these are both big, known, reputable roofing companies we were referred to by friends. I think they ripped the shingles and just saw that what was there was solid enough to stand on and nail roofing to and went at it. Had I not come home early and seen what was going on inside the locked porch they probably wouldn't have even known until after they left.

Mom is getting older with mobility problems almost falling down a few times getting in and out of the fiberglass shower tub. So, while mom was on a 2 month vacation overseas during the holidays (she just got back 2 weeks ago), I remodeled her bathroom as a late birthday/ Christmas gift. She's loving her new bathroom!

Looks awesome, super-safer for her...good on you for doing it!

Are all the black rectangle/squares (one on the ceiling and the small ones on the wall with the shower head) more showerheads?

Yes, they are. 12x12 rainfall in-ceiling shower head and 6 body jets with shower wand. You can have the shower head and body jets on at the same time or the wand and body jets, but not the shower head and wand with body jets. The body jets can be turned on/ off independently.

They're some type of composite. It smelled like fiberglass when I cut them with a masonry blade.

New doors are being installed today. I'm watching the guys do it and I'm really glad I didn't tackle this myself. It looks like a massive pain in the ass.

Well, long story short we’ve had our microwave on our dryer in our laundry room since our small kitchen had no counter space for it. Going to redo the laundry room and stack the units so I need to put the micro in the kitchen, figured I would try and save some room and put a slim one over the range. Should have taken hours less than it did but I had to wire up an electrical box since the new microwave isn’t hard wired (old exhaust hood just had wire nut connections), demo some tile, wait for the wife to come home for muscle since I needed 4 hands and 1 to feed the plug n cord through a hole, and then mount, dismount, fix and realign the lower bracket and then remount the micro. Turned out ok I suppose. Just wish I had the funds for a new bigger kitchen lol.

    IMG_6900.jpg
    IMG_6907.jpg

I know, I know….i will eventually repaint the cabinets and probably do new countertops.

    Looks good.

Put a gas range in when you do new countertops. Infinitely superior to that induction crap. :D
