Hello! First time car owner here. I got my grandpas 2006 sr5 Toyota tundra due to his recent passing. Just turned 16 and I love this truck. He never kept the best care of his truck but I’m hoping to get it looking better than it did when it came off the lot. I’ll do some light modding looks wise. Gonna keep the stock radio for the cd’s he had. Gonna add some bed liner. Maybe bigger wheels and tires but I’ll do that once I do a little preformance upgrades. And that’s gonna be once I actually have money haha. For now I’m going to do bed liner, maybe a bed cover and that’s it. Fix some issues like a dent in the tailgate and the front right bumper having various different paints from an unknown collision. My grandpa had told me the story of how he bought this truck multiple times. Jan 1st 07 he bought it. Last one on the lot. He made a deal where if he signed that he bought it on the last day of 2006 the dealership would give him $1000 off. I came to this website to document my trucks life , mainly because people are rude on other websites, and look at other peoples trucks. I come here for info pretty regularly. Figured I’ll sign up. I’m happy to be here and hope to get along with the tundra community :)

Sweet truck and while I'm sorry to hear of your grandpa's passing you'll have a lot of memories driving around in it. Welcome!

I was confused by the vehicle information in your profile, '2007', because that'd be a 2nd gen. And the picture clearly shows a 1st gen. But I read your intro, so I surmise you're referring to the year grandpa actually bought it. It's a good story.

Yes, feeding and restoring one of these can be a bit expensive, but if you're handy and willing to learn-- what a great way to remember your grandpa.

    Welcome!

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Great truck to start with, and you have the nostalgia behind it. I'm glad to hear you plan to take care of it.

Take care of the truck and it'll take care of you.

Congratulations on the Truck. Your Gandpa's memory and story of how he got the truck lives on. If you find a good body shop they can scan and color match that paint so your front bumper matches the restof the paint perfectly. I use the Akzo Nobel Automatchic Vision system and it's great. Look for a bodyshop that has the Sikkens Paint System and they'll have the Automatchic Vision. AkzoNobel Sikkens - Creating Together - AMV (sikkensvr.com)

You forgot to tell us how many miles it has on it. And does the V6 have the same timing belt situation as the V8? If so, you'll want to get on that right away.

my bad. It has 137k Miles. This is the 4.0L 1gr-fe so it doesn't have the timing belt it has a timing chain thats meant to be good for its whole life. Thats what i've read on other posts here anyway. So dodged a bullet there haha

Well this is my good bye, I totaled my truck, was hit by an f250 then hit a light pole and wrapped my truck around it. Lucky to be alive, but dang do I wish I still had that tundra. I loved that truck sm.
