So, yesterday @ToyTec was advertising a set of shocks that would constitute a 3" lift if installed. My question is, other than cost, is there a benefit to going the shock/coilover route rather than installing a full lift kit, or vice-versa?
Why would someone chose to go one way or the other?
I'm was planning on installing the ToyTec 3" BOSS when I get the money but now I'm intrigued.. My lift is purely cosmetic, so if I can get the same effect with just the shocks......
    I appreciate any input. Thanks.

TC long travel. Deaver 420 SU leaf packs.
You'll actually see a small increase in travel. You also get a superior shock and decrease the risk of bending a shock which has happened with urinal cake lifts.

You'll get increased travel with a full lift kit or with the shocks only?

    Lol. Urinal cake lift.

With the longer Toytec coilovers, I believe you'll see a slight increase in travel. I put ADS coilovers in mine and my buddy is telling me I now need limit straps.

So the 3'' kit is going to offer a overall taller spring and shock to accommodate that lift and still give you the desired travel which will yield in better ride quality and overall durability both on and off the road.

Having a shock that preloads the factory coil spring to give lift will ultimately limit the travel you have and will make the ride quality firmer overall.
