Do you know the offset? I have spidertrax on my pro with stock wheels and 295. I can't decide between leaving stock, smooth extension or bolt flares. I see some and think awful then see some like yours and want them again.

    hammer,
help me out here with some info please. I've been trying to find a fabricator of the hidden winch mount for over 8 months.
    1) who fabricated this for you? Price?
    2) what was the solution for the oil cooler located in the way? and bracing for the fog light corner trim?
    3) how do you access the winch clutch, or is this only activated with a wireless remote?

    Thanks, gosolo

Awesome. Love the hidden winch and light bar looks good. I was about to say that there are some that are really looking for the hidden winch. Looks like @gosolo found you. Others might like to know as well. You should post up a new thread specific about the details of the hidden winch so its easily searchable. :)

The winch is mounted upside down on a bracket that runs from side to side on the frame behind the transfer case. It's offset so I had to use a couple of pulleys to route the cable around and center it up in the front. It's not a huge winch....but I'm not planning on burying my truck anytime soon

You use a little more cable this way you can have a winch without altering the front of the truck

Sounds interesting. Is this something you custom installed? Are the pulleys structurally attached so they don't pull out when winching? Pics?

Sounds ingenious! Still wonder how you access the clutch?
Thanks for explaining. That is interesting and I would like pictures just to see how it was done. I would never want to do this on my Pro for several reasons.
    1) No way you could ever cleanly respool the cable unless someone with gloves was laying under the truck to guide it.
    2) I would not want to risk using an undersized winch,
    3) the amount of road dirt, mud, water, and debris would make me fear damage could occur. I scrape on enough rocks and stuff as it is to give me plenty of concern about vulnerable stuff.

And I never said my winch was undersized. And why do you think the winch isn't protected??? Its enclosed and if you didnt see the cable you wouldn't know its a winch....the clutch is easy to engage and disengage with a cable... and as far as CLEANLY respooling.....well I guess it doesn't matter how pretty the cable is spooled if it's hidden

I guess when you said the "it's not a huge winch... but I'm not planning on burying..." , I thought that meant small. Sorry, no offense intended. If you could possibly attach some pictures it would have cleared up a lot of this, for sure. It really does sound like you put a lot of effort and thought into a cool mod. I love what winches have done for me in the past, so I watch this kind of post pretty close. The spooling issue though is a big deal. Have you ever had a winch before? or is this a first go?

I've used winches for years, on my car trailer and winch trucks as well. As long as I keep tension on my winch line the cable spools ok.

And if spooling is such a big thing then why do wreckers not have to hand guide their cable???? I've hardly in 35 years had trouble with my winch lines. And I don't hand feed them

Just like with wreckers, Why the need to hand guide your cable?? In 35 years I've hardly ever hand guided the cable. If you keep tension you shouldn't have to very often

Sure sounds like you have the experience. Obviously you built a very cool modification. Thanks for your time explaining how this works.
these are certainly nice trucks to have!
