DIC-20 system for a steal so i jumped on it. Other than some squeaky wheels, its in pretty good shape.


They said that it will need new resin which i figured. I connected it to the hose and let it run for around 90sec and it was jumping between 7-8 ppm. I have no idea if thats good or bad, i know that they recommend anything over 0ppm to replace the resin/cartridges. I was thinking about removing the cartridges and running water through it to get a baseline of how my water is (i think we have pretty good water). That a good idea or skip it?


Whats the low down on replacing resin vs replacing cartridges. Previous owner said they hadn't used it in a while.

So i've got an ACTIVE 2.0 being delivered this week, along with their new shorty gun. I've got an UBERFLEX 50'er already and some quick connects. I'm thinking about just installing some quick connects on each side and just swapping over to the Spotless for the final rinse. i dont really have any desire (yet) to do a permanent mount for the pressure washer and Spotless but i dont want to accidentally pump all the water through the CR on accident.

 

Might want to do something like I did so you can have it hooked up but bypass the resin until final rinse.



I just replace the resin. I do not even use the cartridges, I have some downtubes I use that help get more life out of the resin.

 

I've heard about the down tubes....I heard that some people got blow thru resin....maybe they did something wrong.

I got a TDS meter, gonna get a baseline....but I think our water is pretty good. Gonna guess around 75-100ppm

I like your plumbing setup, the only thing I'm worried about is accidentally leaving it on that's why I'm leaning towards just putting some quick connects and just manually doing it.

Did my first wash and rinse with the new setup. Coming from a honda gas powered washer, wow....electric is the way to go. I think my gas pressure washer is 3200psi and it really strips all the dirty off, but being able to just pull the gun and it runs vs having to try to do all aspects of one side of the truck at a time. It really makes it much more enjoyable and can take my time at each part of the wash....plus its a lot quieter.

Its not the most eligant solution but the Active 2.0 really fits nicely on the on the shelf, and some zip ties make sure it doesn't vibrate off.

My initial thoughts on the Spotless system, i bet this thing will really shine in summer. Today is was probably 55-60 deg so the water wasn't going anywhere, but i did notice that windows came out much cleaner.

I opted to get the Uberflex hose and the Mosmatic stubby gun, not cheap....but very happy with the combo.

 

I lived in Carmichael area as a kid. Our water came out of the American River and we didn’t have water meters. My parents paid a flat rate like $2/mo for water. We washed the cars with plain old tap water and never had issues. Now Phoenix was a different story, you had to be care not to park in a lot where the sprinklers would get your car or you’d have crazy water spots on your windows and chrome.

 

Yeah, i think we have pretty good water here in Sac. I figured that the Spotless was gonna be more overkill than anything, but the price was right and i have a feeling that it will be really nice during summer when its hot out...especially around the windows, since the water flashes off pretty quickly when the sun is blasting.

just did my first winter wash at 44 degrees, spot free risned and pulled it into the garage with the water all over it, dried perfect.

and with your low TDS, those will last a while

you can get an idea here, key is use it only at the very end for a final rinse and the only thing you should be rinsing off is other clean water that is not treated, you dont wash off the soap with spot free after your agitate the soap.

Thanks for the info. I detailed a friend’s Kia something or other and I was amazed at how crappy the water spotting was using City of Houston water. I’m going to have to give some consideration to a water treatment option, otherwise I’m going to be creating a lot of extra work for myself. Weather conditions were good, low humidity with temps in the 60’s to boot.

 

What I do is buy bulk resin, then empty and refill the cartridges. I tried the down tubes for a while. I can’t remember exactly what it was that I didn’t like about them but re-using the cartridges is just more convenient to me.
Resin isn’t as cheap as it used to be, but it’s still a little bit cheaper to go this route.
It’s also easier to tell when I need to reorder it. When I get my last fill’s worth in the cartridges I know I need to get some more. When you’re just replacing the cartridges, there’s no way of knowing when it’s time to reorder until yours is used up.
I always change the resin out when it no longer reads zero.

 

Yeah, i ended up just doing the cartridge swap for that first time....Just wanted to get it up and running.
I'll probably see how long these cartriges last me and see if it makes it worth it to buy bulk and refill or just do the swaps.
If you end up finding a deal on bulk resin, let me know.

I did notice the resin color changed, the cartridges that came with it were orange, and the replacement was grey. I'm guessing thats the "mixed bed resin" or whatever its called?

You can refill the cartridges multiple times for 200 bucks, so it’s significantly cheaper in the long run.
The resin I got from there is mixed bed and it’s orange, never seen gray. No idea what the difference is.
