Hi all, first post. Glad to be here and look forward to keeping up with what's going on with 2.5 gen trucks. I came home a couple of days ago with a new-to-me 2018 Limited.

I've been using the search feature getting caught up on Head Unit upgrades, rear-underseat storage options, and console wireless chargers. I've also done quite a bit of reading on remote start, and I have a question about those.

Preface, I prefer to leave the key in the truck and use a separate FOB on my keychain for lock/unlock. Since the FOB and key are a single unit for my truck, this isn't possible right now.

For user-installed remote start, I'm seeing many people install a 12voltsolutions or Tech12Volts (website down; assume you can still get it by email). I know most prefer that remote start work with their existing FOB, but for me I actually prefer a separate FOB so I can leave the factory key/FOB inside the truck.

Which brings me to my question..... I'm wanting to end up with an aftermarket FOB with the following buttons: REMOTE START, LOCK, & UNLOCK. Is there a remote start system out there that offers this? The aftermarket FOB from 12voltsolutions just has remote start. Not sure about Tech12Volts.

Thanks! And I apologize in advance if this info is already on the forum and I just missed it.

After thinking, it really doesn't have to be an aftermarket FOB that is included with a remote start kit..... If I could just find a non-key-attached fob to put on my keychain (OEM or 3rd-party) I could use any remote start kit and it should work just fine with the lock button on the FOB.

So now I guess it's down to the question of can I get a different FOB than came with my truck. I have the H style key/fob

Aftermarket remote start have the proximity sensors option. If you have the key fob should unlock when you get close. Compustar T13

Leaving a key and FOB in a vehicle would be a thief's dream. I would not recommend it. Then getting a truck back after they destroyed it would suck. Its easier just getting a remote start for he truck using your original key FOB where u push the lock button 3 times. They don't reprogram your original FOB if that's a concern. Or if something like this is what you may be referring too. By a Toyota FOB like the 2020-21 and program it. or purchase a remote start with a push button start feature.

or purchase or make a flip key with FOB.

@Tundra-XP thank you! That's exactly what I'm going to do, convert my H-Smart key to a flip-style key. I'm also buying a dumb key (non-fob) with smart chip that I can get programmed to the truck.

Sorry for the late reply. I was going to do the flip key on my last 14 DC but I sold it. LoL

    Welcome, from Canada!

I installed a Start X remote starter.. but it uses my existing key fob. Works great, 3x lock press and the truck starts. OEM battery died on me a few weeks ago and it didn’t even need reprogramming.. 45min install top to bottom.
