No bulb issues whatsoever in terms of excess heat. They manage it pretty well.

I installed mine today and had a little bit of hyper flash, but it went away?? Where do you plug the resistor into? Is it the spare little dongle coming off the switchback plug?

BINGO. That resistor plugs into the extra little dongle hanging from the middle, switchback bulb. Make sure to mount the resistor itself to a metal surface!

Awesome. Thanks for quick replies, I mounted it to the body of the bed inside the housing after I cleaned a spot. Loving these lights!!!

Edit: I wanted a little more on the low brightness for winter time so I mechanically removed any tint on outside diameters using a low speed felt bob. It's easy to melt the plastic so it was just the plain bob with no grit and only about 5k rpm or less, and almost no pressure. This leaves the area inside the endcap tinted and that's all. It worked great. The little tint in the cap just takes the edge off but they still perform awesome.

sorry memorio I think I was born with the tinker gene, your product is still my favorite mod

    original:
I'm happy with my latest experiment with the red bulbs. Started by removing and cleaning the bulb globes with alcohol followed by a single coat of VHT nite shade. That by itself was too dark, but by using a cotton pad with alcohol and squeezing and rotating the globe in the fingers the majority of it flakes off with a bit of force. What's left is a surprisingly even light smoked tint. Low brightness setting is now comparable to OEM lows, and high setting is still somewhat brighter than OEM highs and in every direction not just the narrow reflected band of the stock bulb. The contrast between the two is very nice. However it's not dazzling at all anymore in the middle of the night. As a plus the tinge of pink the bulbs had is totally gone. It's all very red. Plus I don't need to worry about 3d printed caps anymore. Thank heaven. I hate printing in ASA; it clogs up the print head when I switch back to PLA and it needs a lot of room ventilation.

The turn/reverse bulbs are untouched as they aren't too bright from the rear.

Ordered the bulbs and controllers for my reverse/turn signals to upgrade them from the standard kit to the Extreme kit. FYI, the only difference between the 2 kits is the switchback bulb output. The standard bulb is 900 lumen reverse, 500 lumen amber. The extreme is 1000 lumen reverse, 1400 lumen amber. The brake/tail red bulbs are 900 lumens for both kits.

I finally installed mine, and I’m really happy. I tried taking some photos with only one side done, but they really don’t do it justice - everything just gets washed out in red.
But there was definitely a difference between the before and after! I’m not worried about someone not seeing my brake lights now.

I will never understand why Toyota intentionally designed the tail lamp assemblies so they look like half the bulbs are burned out

They were just trying to imitate Chevys I think. Those always have a burnt out bulb or two.

I think the response time is worth as much as the visibility. Other drivers see them light up at least a half tinder swipe faster than the filament bulbs. Well, at least 90 ms faster to full brightness. That's an extra 10 feet at highway speeds.

For anyone doubting the power output of these check out the pic I snapped sitting at the red light. Passenger behind me has his hand over his eyes they’re so bright! Look at all the street signs etc lit up behind me also! That not from traffic, that’s my tail lights setting everything on fire! Lol These things Rock! @memario1214 thanks again Colton.

So, I am on the fence on this kit and whether it is something I want as a package or try piece it together.

The pictures and light output upgrade is obvious for red bulbs.
Hottails- OEM sealed connections (Big +)

I am not trying to blind the person behind me with my brake lights.
Main focus is on reverse lighting and maximizing stock locations first.
Switchback is cool, but not a need.
switching from a filament bulb to something better / brighter seems logical (although many options available)

V6 extreme reverse kit white 3000lm (yea not exactly true)$140
    V6 extreme switchback- white-1000lm /amber 1400lm $200
    V6 Switchback white-900lm / Amber 500 lm $150
    Hottails- white-900lm / Amber 500 lm

Is there an option to upgrade hottails to the extreme components?
Will extreme be added to options in future?
    Are custom options available?
Are people who purchased happy with reverse lighting performance over stock?

Jumping from $140-> $360 is a big price point change.
Extreme would be another $50 (msrp) jump but at that point would truely be the ultimate setup.

would appreciate feedback, and suggestions based on what i am trying to accomplish.

    Thanks,

    Mark

The red bulbs in the Hottails kits are all extreme bulbs. The reverse/switchback can be upgraded to the extreme bulbs.

I can happily spec out a "full extreme" version for you. That said, what you'll notice is that the boost in power is primarily at the amber portion of the bulb, and not the reverse. I think that you'll find that if you did a poll here that the turn signal is plenty bright in the standard hottails kits thus the reason why we don't even offer it!

In a perfect world, what would your functionality look like? Do you still want the turn signal where it located stock? If so, we could just build you out a setup where we upgrade your bulbs all around :notsure:

I have the full monty and its the best thing ive done to the truck. Reverse lights are stupid bright as are the brake and turn signals, toyota should have kept the turn signals amber like the prior generation had. Best mod for safety you could do.Everything is top notch.

I will also agree that the turn signals are plenty bright - no need to go brighter in my opinion. Very happy with the kit!

I actually added extra lights to my bumper for backup lights (what can I say, camping in the middle of nowhere), so hard for me to comment on just the backup lights in the kit. They seem quite bright though.

Whatever you decide on, I know @memario1214 will take care of you and make sure it works for you.

@memario1214 I discovered this earlier this morning. My left side lower bulb is stuck in "brake pressed" mode. Bad bulb possibly? I think I still have one of my original V6's that I can slave in and see what happens. About 2 months ago I started the truck and turned on the parking lights. When they came on, that same side was in "brake pressed" mode for a second or 2 before it switched to normal. I didn't notice at the time if it was just the lower bulb or not. Passenger side is fine.

I might be wrong and @memario1214 can whoop my ass if I am wrong, but honestly, the hot tails set is plenty bright, and don't forget, there is a hyper-flash rely in the set that I am not sure if VLED has?
But yea, one of the best mod I ever had, along with the hitch-pod, I rarely have people tail me, one brake light later it is two car's length until the next idiot.

I've had mine installed for a year now, and still very happy with the purchase. No second guessing like i normally have. Noticeably brighter and the backup lights are much better. I had the Hhitchpod for a while, but I tow about once a week on average and got tired of changing it out for the hitch honestly.

The harness doesn’t work that way. The connectors plug into the factory light connections and then have 3 or 4 pin round connectors that work with the VLEDs.

Darn. I was hoping it would.
Anyway, when you opened the oem tail lamp to paint the inside, what paint did you use? Satin black? Did you baked the lamps then pry open? I liked how you did it. Smoke just enough.

Yeah I used satin black for the paint - but to open up the tails, you actually have to cut around the perimeter with a dremel or a fancy ultrasonic knife like @memario1214 has. They don’t bake apart like the headlights do, so it can get a little difficult and tedious. I think I saw someone post a factory tail clone that was blacked out though, which I would probably go with instead of cracking open another set. I’ll see if I can find a link.
