Fridge/freezer setup for overlanding

Hello, got a 06 tundra double cab that I'm gonna be building out for overlanding and I need to be able to quickly convert it back rn as it's my only vehicle so if I need bed for hauling stuff or back seats if I am going to an event with friends carpooling

Here's the question I wanna find is some setup ideas for some portable fridges, my gf works at camping world and am able to get the camco 950 for stupidly cheap so I'm gonna pick it up but worried about space having her and my dog with camping...I'd like to put the fridge in the back seat but don't wanna have to remove the seats yet as it's not a full time overlander yet.

 

How much space do you have between the rear seats? I can't remember the seat layout of the DC, if there's a center section you can remove or not.

It'd be cool if you could hit a JY and grab a wreckd rear seat, steal the base, and make a lock-in platform to mount the fridge on.

 

I put mine where the back seat was I can get some pics later but it only like 4 bolts and seat comes right out. I removed the 60% side

I put mine behind the driver seat in my access cab.

 

I have a fridge, dog, girl set up in truck but I will refrain from offering my experience as I have a second gen. I was scolded in the past for commenting in the first gen section.

 

i fold my back seats down and it fits right there on top. the double cab has plenty of space. just take some measurements. With dog travelling and if the kids are at home I usually fold all the seats flat in the back and put an old blanket down. my 70lb german shepard can fit back there with my fridge strapped down. Heck, my fridge even fits on the seat.

There are ways around that, but it ain't cheap.

 

yup the bed works too... but if i have a rear seat free i much prefer that. I can easily charge from the cig ligher port back there, it stays cooler w/ the AC running, it's more secure. When I'm not running the car the Jackery keeps it running with the windows cracked (at least the roll down rear window). Car charges jackery when it's running. It's really a good setup. Of course, if I'm hauling both kids and dog it goes in the bed.

 

I definitely didn’t want to put it permanently in the bed, but it needed to be there because I’m usually having the kids and dog on trips and that’s primarily what I’m using the truck for. I already got a papa cap on the truck, so major truck hauling activities are sorta out of the picture. I’ve got a utility trailer if I really needed to haul something large

 

Yeah that makes sense. I'll be putting at OVRLND CAMPERS setup on mine in a few months so at that point I'll probably run a full-time fridge in the bed. This camper is the whole reason I got this truck https://campovrlnd.com

350lbs for the camper plus whatever semi-permanent stuff I put back there. Not bad at all for this truck.

 

Weren't you into pop-ups at one time? I had a real nice DC/AC inverter setup to run in my Coachman Clipper.

 

yeah I have this beauty of for sale. It's a Livin Lite Quicksilver 10.0 w/ the offroad and propane package. I really love this thing (lightweight, no wood) but we haven't been using it enough and I got tired of towing. Want to try out the truck camper life.

to be fair, I owned a 1st gen and loved it, will grab some pics when i get home.

 

Oh damn there's so many responses right away...don't have time to write a reply to everyone here, so ima answer back to what I saw scrolling quick and reply to a couple more as I actually can read through all of them.

The bed is kinda out of the question with how tall I am plus girlfriend being in there the fridge is not gonna be able to fit and us still be comfortable.

@shifty` I measured out the space when seats are folded up and it's 21.5in wide and the fridge is 22.5in so I don't quite have enough room there with the seats in, I could set it on the seat regularly which would probably be what I do for the time being.

After doing measurements and thinking and looking at the fridge the last few hours I think I might end up saying screw it and taking the rear seats out and building a platform and can pop in and out with a slide for the fridge to be able to sit on and lock, but if I go that route I would like to maybe find a way to make some new hinges that would be quick release so I can pull the platform out and pop the seats in quickly(ish) if I need the rear seat.

 

Using a junk yard seat is kinda a good idea for a platform...if only I could make a quick release hinge so I don't have to bolt and unbolt the bolts everytime I need to swap

 

Yeah mines a little bigger I got the CAM 950 so I can't fit it in the single Seat side no matter how I put it in there

 

I wanna do a jackery type setup too eventually with a switch so I can choose what source to charge from between truck or solar

 

I'm gonna be setting up a makeshift setup so I can easily pop my topper on and off by myself with some large sawhorses, I want to have a hoist in my garage but the ceilings are too low :/

 

I wanna get one eventually but torn between if I want a topper style with pop-up or a slide in model like 4wheel campers so I'm gonna roll with the regular topper for a year or two to decide what we really like, I love the slide in for the features it has like cabinets and dinette and such but I like topper idea so it's more customizable...eitherway I'd wanna make a setup where I can easily take it off when I'm not traveling for daily driving.

It's not your fault lol, seems way easier to find info and parts for 2nd gen but that's to be expected with how long they were produced...the only thing I dislike about my truck is that being a double cab there is like nothing for it...I just want a matching prinsu style rack for the roof but the only option is the spider and I don't really know if I wanna pull the trigger on it

 

How do those bolt to the floor? Do you run a bolt through the rear, so you could potentially use something like this for a quick-install/uninstall for the JY baseplate? (I've done similar in the past for other grab 'n go stuff)

Honestly I haven't had a chance to pull it apart and look yet but I saw online it's two bolts per seat mount and the seat comes off the bracket thats bolted to the floor but unsure how it goes into that or how easy it is to reinstall the seats again but a pin like that is what I'm talking about for quick release

 

So here is my dog/ fridge setup in a DC 2nd gen, not a huge rear seat by any means so this setup could apply to any truck really.
Bluetti eb150 sits on the floor, dometic cfx45 sits on platform, dog goes on the other side.
I am conscious of keeping the fur away from the fridge as it will wad up the coil, I just use a simple piece of wood leaned aginst the fridge.
I also kept my single seat available by splitting the platform 60/40.
I cannot charge the bluetti from the 12v at the back as it draws too much, but I have heard the 12v near the front will work, shorter wire run possibly?
We are in bear country so food in the truck is a must.

 

Yeah I have a jackery solar panel as well. When I'm parked in a safe location for a long time I will throw the panel on the roof and crack the window, feed it through the window into the jackery. I do that camping, driveway, or sometimes in my work secure parking lot.
