Damn, you'd think Toyota would've put some kind of adjustment on either the latch, the strike, or the bumpstops.

On my GM trucks, which I had plenty prior to the 1GT, they had various rubber contraptions that would act as a pad to push against the tailgate and avoid rattles. But they would flatten. I wonder if your rubbers are flattened?

My titan does that. You might have some adjustment in the latches.

Rubbers look good. Maybe there’s some leeway in the mounting of the latch that would let me pick up the slack.

Looks like he shows the same issue as mine after putting in the new bumpstops @8:10 but if I heard him correctly, he put back in the “old” bumpstops to fix it?

He put back in the old upper bumpstops because the 3D printed ones that he bought weren't working. But a lot of the wobble can be corrected with the lower bushing replacements it seems.

You may be right. There appears to be quite a bit of play in the up/down direction of the tailgate as well. I could probably temporarily restrict movement to verify.

I don't think mine has bushings in it. At least I don't remember seeing them. I'll hafta look, maybe a difference between the later models and earlier models.

Meanwhile, yes, the 3d printed bumpstops were too tall. The tailgate wasn't able to latch on the driver's side, but was grabbing fine on the passenger side. I think it was a combination: The new plastic bushings were limiting range of motion for the tailgate, and the new bumpstops were acting as a standoff so the latch couldn't completely lock in place. Before the bushings, the tailgate had enough play it could shift forward enough to grab the latch.

    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
I don't remember any bushings in mine either when I had it out doing the handle replacement. And some rust repairs.

Well I'll be. I didn't even notice I'm missing a rubber bumper too and I was just in there messing with my taillight assemblies a couple days ago. Lol.

Is it supposed to have one in the hole beneath the bottom tail light bolt too?

I'm fairly certain the p/n is 90541-11015. Edit: Made visual confirmation on my truck, and (1) I do have bushings on both sides, and (2) this rubbuer bumper part matches my existing bumper. I pulled that part number from the EPC-DATA website for my make/model/year if it matters.

The wierd part is, look at where Toyota shows that part: https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/tundra/uck40/3806/body/6553/

It's basically going into the side of the tailgate?! And clearly, you can't buy the tailgate bushing separately, you need to buy the latch assembly (66120-0C012 for LH, 66110-0C012 for RH on my '06 AC)

All of the diagrams are odd. I checked in two separate systems and both don't even show the cushions/bumpers in mine. I even looked in the bedside and still couldn't locate them.

I find the diagrams at EPC-DATA to be quite a bit more thorough, and explicitly VIN-based, which can be a pain sometimes if you're wanting to adapt different year/cab/model parts to your vehicle without a VIN# for that specific year/cab/model!

My estimating software lets me filter to "all" to see most parts if you ever need me to look up something for you. I just need the VIN to get started then I can adapt. It's not perfect for small hardware as we saw above, hah.

I just did this with the same result. The lower 3D printed bushings tightened it up completely. I kept my old bump stops instead of the new 3D printed ones supplied. If you want to do this OEM you have to buy the complete Tailgate Hinge for each side.

I’m gonna hafta learn how to use those 3D plastic printers at work. They just sit there 90% unused most of the time.

Whelp, drove mine to work tonight and it looks like I'm going to have change out the T10 bulbs in the dash. The left side one keeps turning off and back on while I'm driving, its distracting. The right hand side one may have turned off or come loose from the socket because I can't even see the icons on the air vent selection knob. I knew those were going to give me issues since they didn't fit into the sockets very well. Oh, well, at least the dash cover is easy to remove.

I used OEM bulbs. Localstealership wanted insane price but I got them for a fraction of that from Toyota parts

Did you swap to LEDs and it's the LED failing? Or are you running the stock halogens?

I put in T10 LED bulbs but they didn't fit into the sockets very well. The LEDs fit into the sockets was not good. I had to force them in and they still barely grabbed on. I think I will try different ones that don't have those little square components near the connector.

These are what mine look like.

I have some of these that would fit better I'm sure except they are an Amber color instead of white.

Have the same problem with my tailgate! Drives me nuts! Figured it was just missing a rubber bump stop, but they are all there.
