So my Tundra has what appears to be these rims on my truck. I am guessing these are original equipment. https://www.tundras.com/threads/tundra234s-2020-barcelona-sr5-dc.107938/#post-2781079

I am not use to such specifications as to what tires may be needed. I’m an old school boomer, so I’m a little confused. Specifically by the off set, 20x9, 50mm. 20=rim height, 9=width of rim and 50mm reference I think means how far past the wheel well the tire protrudes. Please correct me if not accurate.

Currently the truck has a set of Nitro Ridge Grabber LT 285/55 R20. The tires seem ok but at some point I will need to think about replacing them.

My question is when purchasing tires does the 50mm reference matter?

Appreciate your time. Pictures attached too, just in case.

    Regards,
    Kevin

The more positive the offset the more tucked in towards the vehicle the wheels will be. Likewise the more negative the further out the wheels will be pushed out. My guess somewhere around +35 is about flush with the vehicle edge (without flares).

The simplest way I can explain it is this...

Take any wheel of any width and draw a line down the center that is the 0 offset mark. Take the mounting surface of the wheel (where it attached to your wheel hub and bolts down). You move that towards the outside edge of the wheel that's positive offset in millimeters. Oppositely, if you move the mounting surface towards the inside edge of the wheel that's negative offset.

In turn, because the mounting surface is moving either in or out, that makes the majority of the wheel either tuck in (with positive offset) or protrude out (negative offset).

    Hope that helps

    I like like this one.
It also has other calculators on it.. upload_2023-10-28_15-24-18.png

I think your TSS wheels are +55 offset.
It should be stamped inside the wheel along with the 20X9 wheel size.
It isn't that much of a factor in simply purchasing tires, more of an issue when purchasing wheels.
My 2014 came stock with these wheels (still have them) and 285/55/20 BFG KOs.
I now run a 275/60/20 tire that is a little taller and narrower.
I like the size a lot more than the stock size, I feel it turns better with the narrower tire.

I'm running Discount Tires Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT 275 /60 R20 115S SL SBL | Discount Tire

In this size, it is an SL rated tire.
Runs much smoother than the D rated KO2s I had, they also run quieter.
