Luckily, I know 12 Texas state inspectors. Also, the unwritten rule is if there is a $20 in the cup holder, it passes

Some OEM+ upgrade action today, long overdue.

Installed 2006 T4R leather-wrapped steering wheel, then added right-hand T4R controls. Color doesn't match on the right, but they seem to function right out of the box (although I don't understand the purpose - 'speak' makes the head unit listen, and 'phone off hook' brings up the phone loading screen!)

I'll be happy either way, and I guess I'm on the hunt for green-backlit right-hand controls so I can gut the PCB to swap over. Adding the write-up on how to do this over in the steering controls info dump thread at some point in the next couple hours or five.

If anyone needs a low-mile charcoal grey OEM steering wheels WITH left-hand controls and cruise, I'll plop it into the sales area before the weekend, or hmu. It's mint, probably toss it out there at $100 shipped?

Damn dawg, you getting a shed already? Be sure to toss up Ring floodlight cams on that mofo outside, and one inside. Protect your investments while you're away at work. Thievin' as mofos be thievin' as mofos.

Oh. It's a repo. Uh oh. Somebody didn't pay the bills. You should try to buy it off em

Welcome to my neck of the woods. Most of the coal miners here lost everything when the mines shut down.

Most lived well beyond their means.

I don't know what happened to this individual, but the immediate local economy hasn't been the same since.

Shit gets repo'd all the time here.

Leather wheel ... more grip surface, more comfortable to me, better grip. And for only a little more than what I'd pay for a Loncky wrap which would take 2-3 hours to finish if I left the wheel in or maybe an hour less if I pulled it. Either way, I'm probably pulling the wheel.

And right-hand controls added is a bonus. I think, maybe.

Didn't you determine it's not possible to add steering wheel controls to my 2002? Otherwise I might be interested in your old wheel.

It's possible, anything is possible. @artsr2002 did it recently on his truck. You add a couple of wires into the plug on the back (pedal) side of the clock spring, assuming your clock spring will accept the steering/cruise wheel control harness on the airbag side of things.

I think the wall you'll end up hitting is (and maybe @daveeasa can confirm this) your 2002 probably uses a single stage airbag, with a clock spring compatible with single stage air bags. I'm pretty sure you would need:
    • Later model clockspring that supports dual-stage airbag
    • Dual-stage airbag and trimmed airbag cover
    • If I recall, 3 wires you can insert into the (pedal) side clockspring harness to run over to a control module like the iDatalink or ASWC-1
Not super plug-and-play. I dunno if you'll want to do there or not.

Well, the wheels are at the tire shop and have Falken Wildpeak 275/70/17s wrapped around them. They'll go on the truck after work. Finished up my center caps tonight too. They came as solid matte bronze, but I added the TRD stickers and hit them with 3 coats of Duplicolor clear coat. First, they were a little more matte than the wheels themselves. Secondly, since the letters are not recessed at all like the polished aluminum OEM TRDs, I thought the clear might protect them from the rain and car wash. We'll see how they look tomorrow.
    20231012_204811.jpg

Here's what they'll look like, but this was pre-clear coat.

Those shed moving trailers are pretty slick. Talked to the guy that delivered my Dads said they're right about $100k but he can deliver twice as many per day than with a roll off.

Yeah, my ‘02 is a single stage. I think there are no black airbags with single stage and audio controls. I believe my ‘05 Tacoma is dual stage.

I have a black wheel w audio controls and a grey wheel w audio controls and matching single stage bag. But it’s not a match to moon mist, just like my seat leather. And I have a remote control which works well enough for now so minimal urgency.

I think my priorities are the Gentex mirrors for garage openers and soldering climate controls in the ‘05 so hot is hot instead of cold.

Dude, installing the battery-operated/no-wire Gentex was the best damn thing I ever did. No wiring, and it just WORKS. Homelink v5 too if I recall, so supports all modern openers. More info and pics: https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-lunch-table-general-discussion.60450/page-1386#post-3029480

I would prefer autodim, but for what I paid sniping it off ShopGoodwill, like $35 shipped or something, IDGAF. I have Homelink at the fingertips and didn't hafta pop off an a-pillar panel or wire squat.

I think this is your problem: Looks like there's a special programming process required for Kenwood/JVC head units to use the Axxess ASWC-1: https://metra-static.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/ASWC-1_Technical_Document_100A.pdf

I just happened to stumble upon that while doing a little research on your head unit. I realize you've got the other unit in and working so it's a moot point, but maybe it helps others in the future.

I've only ever run 2 aftermarket double din touchscreen radios and they are both Sony brand. Is it not common for you to be able to program steering wheel controls from the head unit itself? I can set my buttons in my Lexus to whatever configuration I feel like.

@Tundra2 you've gotta schedule your mods. Like after 12 months, do the dresser bearings to make things nice without having to dig too deep. City water? City sewer? Start collecting tote's to water the garden you're gonna have. Build it to cover with corrigated fiberglass & tarps. I want you to get 2 shipping containers to build a garage & outdoor kitchen, and parking between. (Insured) Solar roof if you can.

Fair enough. I want temp though. I’m a weenie about cold. I have the temp sensor installed in the ‘05 already and the Gentex harness from mirror to kick panel too, plus I made harnesses for the radio connector for both trucks. I literally have to connect 5 wires in the kick panel on the ‘05 and then repeat all that in the ‘02 Tundra. An hour or two tops. Worth it to me cause I’m no stickler for Oem wiring harnesses and such. Plus I already have color matched temp sensor homelink Gentex which work with security 2.0 (tough to find, Bob worked hard to get them for me).

third week of November is a window to get some things done, wife and kids out of town and a full weekend. I’ll have to either cut a hedge or demo the deck but I’ll make time to finally get my mirrors done. Maybe even attempt seat heat in the tundra too, at least driver side, the pads are already in place and I think I even have 8 gauge power waiting.
