Replaced a corroded grounding cable, which didn't seem to be causing any problems but must be there for some reason. The bolts were too corroded to remove so you still see the old cable ends there:

And while I have the skid plate off I applied Fluid Film Black to the forward parts of the frame. Before/after:

Finished changing out my brakes and rotors (PowerStop Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow 5-Lug Brake Rotor and Pad Kit; Front and Rear). The rears were completely shot and clearly have never been off the truck. one too many dips in salt water. The parking brakes were fine though. All in I'd say that was the easiest brake jobs I have ever done; about 30 minutes per corner. The hardest part of the job was getting the heavy wheels and tires back on the hubs. Braking is way better than before. I'm not sure the rears were ever participating. they only had about a 1/2 in band of contact amongst the rust. Total cost: $435.34 +tax.

    Replaced the antenna seal
Relocated the front camera from the license plate to the grille. Not 100% stealth but it's not that noticeable and works way better.
Took a stab at repainting the red on the badges. It turned out OK but if you get closer than 1 foot you can see it's pretty rough around the edges. I'll might end up ordering some from a newer tundra that are black - or just black all the badges with plastidip which I was going to do anyway once I get a new bumper.

    1 or 2... I lost count
Well turns out my shimmy was a combination of a couple things. About 15% was the needle bearing, and the rest was the rock rings on my wheels. I was messing with the suspension to find something loose and I grabbed the rock ring to stand up and it moved almost 1/4". Walked around the truck tightened all my rings and the rest of my steering wheel shimmy is gone... So mainly still a balance issue. If yours is very slight the needle bearing may be your issue but anything major is still probably something else.

I checked mine as well, no slop. I think I'll try a tire rotation to see if that makes a difference.

Had the 07 CM gone over with NHO undercoating. This is the second year for this stuff and it seems to be working really well.Living in the Rust Belt sucks anymore.

Moved to Oregon from the Rust Belt last year. I don't miss the rust one bit. I'm glad your 07 is still doing well the roads if you drive it in the winter, I know at least 3 people who had toyota truck frames rust completely to failure in <20 years (one friend had a 4runner frame snap in half on the interstate, one uncle got his first gen tundra frame replaced under warranty, one grandpa had a 90s pickup frame snap while driving it across his farm)

Installed the AVS Aeroskin II on the hood. Haven’t seen anyone with it on any truck around here.

Also changed out third brake light to LED.

I know there was something else. Just can’t remember. Always doing something.

I have that, too. A much cleaner look, IMO. I do have to get some of that "black refinish" compound to put on it. Mine has faded in the past 2+ years. Haven't seen any other Tundras around Charleston, SC with one either.

Did the ol Stock Air Box Mod (SABM) for some of them gains! Ha, no noticeable gains, but AITs at cruising are lower and the supercharger whine is more pronounced during acceleration.SABM 1.jpgSABM 2.jpg

New tires today. Big-O Bigfoot AT2 275/70R18. Got 17k out of the Bigfoot AT NT, which are 50K warranty tires. OTD cost dropped from $1170 to $409 with the mileage warranty adjustment.
They probably had about 3k-4k miles left of highway use to the wear bar, but I lost confidence in them when I got a bit loose in the rain earlier this month. So, I decided to go ahead and change them before the seasonal rain starts. Very happy with Big-O.

Wow that’s great for them to honor that warranty. How often did you rotate the old set? What was the age before replacing?

They got rotated at Big-O every 3k (usually same day I did my oil changes), aligned when bought, alignment checked at 10k, aligned at 16k when I installed Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2r. I had them on for 26 months.

Replaced front brake rotors and pads. The TRD pads ate up my rotors in 45k miles. Went back to stock ceramic because I don't want to deal with the dust.

    Also rotated tires.

Maintenance day... Drain and fill power steering fluid, changed oil, added a TRD air box to replace the Volant that was on the truck when I bought it(from Car-part it was much less expensive than stock) drain and fill transmission fluid and pulled the slip yoke apart, cleaned it up (it was bone dry with dried out grease) then regreased with XG-8 from Motorcraft. No leaks, and no more clunk when taking off from a stop. Was a long but fruitful day.

Upgraded to the latest Phoenix Android 12 head unit. These head units are unique in that they replace the climate controls. This was the previous model:

    IMG_2707.jpg

The old model has only one dial for fan soeed, but I programmed a custom remote to control the volume and audio.

The new model has dials for volume and temperature and buttons for features like the defroster. The screen is sharper (1200x1600) and wider but not as tall. The screen also has a matte finish which cuts glare and makes it more readable. I think the matte is a screen protector which can be removed to make it glossy.

    IMG_3990.jpg
    IMG_3991.jpg
    IMG_3992.jpg
It provides space for OEM heated seat controls, buttons, and two cigarette-lighter style power adapters at the bottom which I have no need for but I filled up because I hate blanks:

    IMG_3994.jpg

Install was MUCH easier than the first-gen unit. I never recommended the first-gen unit to anyone who wasn't a nerd with patience. It required lots of hacks and custom firmware to get it to a good state.

The new model is literally plug-and-play. It has much better CANBUS integration, so you don't have to tap a reverse wire to automatically pull up your backup camera. When in backup camera view, it shows path lines that curve as you steer. It needs to be calibrated but it should help my shitty backup skills.

    IMG_4007.jpg

Also, wireless Carplay seems 100% solid, which wasn't previously the case. It supports a SIM card and cellular connectivity (which I don't need because Carplay). Sound is still great and connected to my powered subwoofer seamlessly.

    IMG_4006.jpg

Anyway, if you want an Android head unit that replaces the temperature controls and modernizes the look of the interior, I recommend the new model.

NICE! I was contemplating upgrading from the 1st gen. How long did it take for you to get it after you placed the order?

17 days, including a few days of them waiting on me to send a pic of my dash. I then waited one month before installing lol.

I’ve been thinking about this upgrade myself but have been happy with my 10.2 Dasaita for the most part. Another alternative is the AUCar tesla style screen. I have the NiftyCity version for my car and love it.

I painted mine bc I’m cheap, just left the icons unpainted so I can see them. I couldn’t justify that $ going to black trim rings when there’s more important things I could do to my truck.

Nice, that looks so dang good. One upgrade makes the interior jump from feeling like a 2007 to feeling like a 2027.

If my cheapo Boss head unit ever dies I'm just looking for an excuse to get one of those.

Filled in my dash blanks. The buttons aren't hooked up yet but they will be. The center USB port is for android auto, and the double should support fast charging.

Make sure you get the 1.3x0.9" size, and I checked the listing again and see that it's "quick charge 3.0" theoretically, also they say 5V 3A / 9V 2A which is not the actual QC3.0 spec but is the QC 2.0 spec, so it's probably a chineesium average charger with BS marketing

If it charges things I'm just happy it fits in the square hole and looks ok

Awhile back I used diodes to make a separate circuit that's powered when either the cargo lights or ACC power are on.

Initially I used it for my footwell lights but today I connected my power folding mirrors to the same circuit and it's how they should be. With the mirrors connected to only ACC power, I often started closed them as I was getting out of the truck, but I'd turn the ignition off before they had closed. Or I'd realize I needed to close them after the key was out, and I'd have to put the key back in, push the button, wait for them to close, and then turn off the key again.

Anyway, the cargo light circuit is on when you unlock or open the doors, so the combined cargo+ACC circuit is a great way to power accessories like chargers or lights that you sometimes use when entering or leaving.
