I did mine a few months ago on a strictly preventative basis.

I have had zero issues since the install; of course, I was having zero issues before the install as well.

I definitely did not improve my mpg.

I will say that doing the install is waaaaaaaay harder than the video. It was almost impossible for me to work my hands back into the AIP to unplug and plug the connectors. It took me several hours before I finally got it. It was very frustrating, but I finally got it.

In Massachusetts. Even after the tax “savings” I maybe could have squeezed another grand in profit out of the truck, but it needed tires and a full recon to get max money, plus I would be down a vehicle in the interim. Morenof a hassle than it was worth. I paid a $1000 in taxes on the new vehicle by trading in as opposed to nearly $3k if I sold privately.

I didn’t install the block plates either. No issues in over 3 years.

So what is it that the actual plates do? Because if the pump it disabled what’s being blocked off?

The plates block air from coming in if the switch valves get stuck open…I was fine installing the Hewitt preventively (without the plates) for 4 years, until somehow the valves got stuck open. Unfortunately for me,I was 750 miles away from home when it happened. Truck would go into limp mode, I’d have to pull over to clear codes each time. I pulled over maybe 15-20 times on that trip home to clear the codes. I risked breaking my pressure sensors doing this, but I had no choice but to push on.

I learned the hard way why Hewitt recommends that you install the block off plates. It’s done now so hopefully I’m good.

Sometimes one or both air valves get stuck open if that happens you still get codes and limp mode the plates block the air ports to the exhaust
If air valves aren't stuck open you don't need blocking plates and the system is bypassed no problem

Edit: I stand corrected I've never herd of a problem occurring after bypass being installed without blocking plates if valves were not stuck open
Just noticed you have a 1st gen 4.7 they might be different but the blocking plates weren't that difficult to install on my 5.7
