I had mine checked out at the dealership. It doesn't seem to have the close brake and fuel lines that are concerning. I bet the fix will be extensive because the gas tank will have to come down.

Using the description and pictures posted in the other thread on this topic, I looked under my truck and I think I found the problem. In my case it is indeed a flexible plastic tube/hose laying on top of a metal (brake line I suppose) tube. The plastic tube can be moved easily. I can see evidence of them touching in that the plastic tube has some scuffing on it where the dirt is rubbed off. But I don't see any evidence that the plastic tube is damaged in any way. But yes, over a long term this could turn into a problem. For the time being I'm going to let the recall process play out.

I am pretty sure he is talking about the spot in my photo on the previous page. You can clearly see the plastic line crossing over and perhaps touching the metal brake line. it would touch there as it bounces as you drive because it is not clipped down to the frame or to the brake line. This area is straight in under the truck toward the center through the front of the rear passenger side wheel well.

thread "23TA09" has posts with FB pics - they describe and show the area in detail. I took a look and none of my metal or plastic lines are in contact and all are secured in clips that prevent them from contacting. In all cases where they cross you can easly put your finger between them. No preventative measures here for me - just going to wait for the dealer to do their thing when they get around to it.

I've had my name down for a Tundra Pro since late Oct '21 at the only dealer around here who was listing at MSRP at the time. I got notified the allotment in my name had hit the lot August 9th...and before being able to go in and see the truck on the 10th this recall came out with a stop sale on the VIN. Major bummer after the excitement for finally taking delivery. I'm really hoping Toyota gets some more information about the resolution soon and that it ends up not requiring extensive work. Hard to swallow a non-emergent situation like this resulting in a stop sale, but I guess the notice only has about 600 vehicles in this situation.

The NHTSA Toyota notice of defect (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RMISC-23V566-8490.pdf) had a lot of good history on the problem. So, 14 TSRs and 27 warranty claims that may be related to the fuel line/brake line interference issue.

My truck is affected, wonder when the fix will come in, I doubt it would rub threw the line though. Looks like it would take something more to do that.

Now that’s a start, Toyota shared their Mickey Mouse fuel leak findings within a short time frame. Wish they’d do the same and share the bearing failure metrics..

I love what you do for me.. Toyota!

Great info, thanks for posting. One of the key takeaways from this is what I mentioned a couple of days ago here, the line in question and the potential point of leakage is far removed from any ignition sources. The closest one would be the muffler and exhaust which is way on the other side of the truck. So, the risk of having a fire, even if you get a leak, is small. And the chance of getting a leak in the first place is small.

My first car was a Toyota Celica, those mid 80s Toyotas is definitely were they built their reputation on.

I didn't have one but I always liked those Celicas. Friend had one and it was really nice and super reliable.

I had an 86 celica gt hatchback myself. First year after they went from rear to front wheel drive.
All I can say is as a youngin I drove the hell out of that car. New to me at 114,000 on the clock.
Put another hard 100k on it before I sold it. Ran great! Never even had to replace the clutch.

Sadly though my Tundra falls into that recall date range of effected vehicles.
I have to take a look down there with a scope to see whats up.
Wonder if they are going to just lift the bed off the vehicle vs dropping the gas tank etc for the repair.

I definitely hope the fix isn't too convoluted. I wonder if the holdup is around trying to streamline parts and specific steps to resolve. I suppose at these numbers saving 10 minutes off the fix has meaningful financial impacts to Toyota.

I'm ready to bring the truck home and having it sitting on the lot in limbo with a stop sale is killing me, especially as I wouldn't have stopped driving it after reviewing the information on the Toyota report. Oh well.

If the final remedy ends up being what that NHTSA document linked above says, it could be a pretty big job to replace the plastic line as per the changes already made on the production line. If it is the tube segment I have identified they are gonna have to clear out a lot of interference, probably including the fuel tank. But I haven't followed the ends of the tube to see exactly where they terminate. It is tight in there between the frame and bed. So, I am not sure why the temp fix to add a clip and some other protection wouldn't be enough. I guess we'll eventually see as Toyota rolls this out.

Yeah I had an 87 GTS which was quite luxurious for a Celica. That burgundy red interior with the nice seats. It was gold or champaign iirc and was fairly quick for 1988

I wanted an 85.5 Supra, that black on black was sweet and the inline 6 was a definite up grade. They got a black one in right after my parents bought me the 87. I so wanted it but it was an Automatic and my parents wouldn't go for it at the time.

this was in feb-mar of 1988

man do i have a story for you. my mom bought a white turbo supra. she let me borrow it when i got out of usaf basic training en route to my first base. i visited her in ATL. drove it down to my hometown columbus ga.

i was taking a right hand merge at a 4 way intersection and the turbo spooled up (i was new to turbo's and i freaked out and didnt know to just hit the brakes) and the rear end did a 180, slapped the driver side rear wheel against the curb and promptly rolled the wheel under the axle.

2 weeks later i get it out of the repair shop and was driving southbound on victory drive toward the base. its 4 lanes across + right shoulder turn lane. i see a car pull out and i decided since i am in the 3 lane from the right i would move over to the inner most center median lane. the chevette decides to cross all 4 lanes and i plow into it after 1-2 hrs after getting it back from the repair shop. luckily it was minor damage and i was able to drive it back to ATL and go on my way to my first duty station.

my mom was beyond pissed both times. she promptly made sure i never drove any of her vehicles again.

That is a cool story, I loved the looks of that year model Supra. They were awesome especially with some rear hatch louvers. After I graduated college I bought a used MR2 turbo which I wish I still had since they go for crazy money. Japanese cars were so cool when we were young. We didn't have the Camaros, Challengers and Mustangs back then. I always went for the 300zx or 3000GT or the MR2, Celica, Supras or the Conquest/ Starion twins. All of which I have owned at some point or another. I even had a Pulsar NX which I totaled on the way to college one morning and a NX2000 later on which got me through college. I bet I have had 100s of rides in my lifetime, some models I own multiple times including a Subaru to this day.

Checked clearance on my non-hybrid June 2022 build today.

Ample clearance between the two brake lines and the fuel line in question. It was nice and dusty under there which made it easy to determine there had not been recent contact between the two. Did a closer inspection and it appears they have not had any contact which resulted in chaffing to the fuel line. I just used my eyes and an inspection mirror. Bore scope certainly would have been handy, but not necessary.

Big thanks to all those that contributed photos and information throughout the thread. Made finding the area in question very quick and easy.

I’m gonna pull that wheel and get in there tomorrow. My Toyo App says my 23 Limited gasser with 5/29 build date is affected. Anyone look up front yet where all the lines run up the firewall together into the engine bay? May have to pull the plates to see that.

that is wild, if one is metal and the other is rubber without a force acting upon it in downward pressure. I do not see any way that the rubber hose would wear enough to go through and leak fuel.

Maybe with heat? Is the risk actually melting and not rubbing?

When I saw the fill neck was on the left, but the fuel tank is on the right I knew there would be a problem somewhere in the fuel system. Who does something that goofy except 3G Tundra?
