Cat theft prevention

Im moving to Philadelphia for a couple years and the truck will be parked on the street for the first month or so till I get the know the city and find a proper place to live with a garage and all. Any recommendations on proven methods to stop cat theft? I know its mostly a deterrent but if y'all have any recommendations on what to get or what to avoid id be interested.

My experience with Philly is that you will need to secure the entire truck. You protect the cats, they'll get the rims, the tailgate, or other. Not a really good environment up there IMO.

 

He's already in Houston, can it be much worse...

 

I'd say yes, by a factor of at least 3.

 

Houston’s the cat theft capital of the world, surprised you haven’t had trouble yet. My Tundras driver side was jacked and someone tried to pry off my cat plate on our Sequoia.

At work, 6 Tundras had their cats stolen on under an hour.

You go look at used Tundras and it seems half got their cats jacked with aftermarket crap on it.

 

I would think Houston being close to the port and to Mexico, it would be pretty bad down there..

 

This place has become a sh** hole of thieving thuggery. @kkag621 I can't believe your truck hasn't been hit yet with no protection on it, lucky man.
They tried to get mine in a hospital garage, made one saw cut on a pass. side pipe then got spooked off, lucky man. I drove straight to a muffler shop and had the cut welded up. I ended up with a Miller Cat shield. I check it every now and then for pry or cut marks, nothing yet.

No surprise Talon is in Houston, business is unfortunately good here.

Any of that aftermarket crap actually sound nice?

 

My buddies “aftermarket crap” sounds awesome, but it throws the CEL. He added some kind of filter to get it to pass.

My cat shield on our Sequoia is a Miller Cat and they tried to pry it off. I know it works because they tried to get mine and bent the corner of the plate a bit, they ended up jacking the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s parked next to us. Dude came out and his Jeep sounded like a NASCAR.

Im sorry to hear you've had bad experiences. I live and work way out here in the burbs, gated and armed guarded neighborhood. Houston proper can be sketchy at times but there are pockets of hidden gems I wouldn't mind moving to if I wasn't so planted out here. I also carry EVERYWHERE, so one can FAFO.

This one shows back in stock today. It's an easy install. If you have a skid plate, only loosen the front bolts, don't take them all the way off.

 

does this one need to be dropped in order to change the oil?

 

After having

Engine oil, no.
The cat covers don't start until behind the engine.

 

The OEM skid plate needs to be dropped to change the oil.

 

Anyone else on the forum running this? Do you have any photos of the install? Thinking of grabbing it since it seems like a decent price

Just installed this one on my wife’s sequoia. We are in Houston, bought this one locally at Prospeed up by 1960 and Cutten Rd

 

None of those prevent cat theft..

They wear masks for the camera.
By the time you run outside with your Hi-point, they are long gone..

 

It's just my reply for the pcs of shit who rob people like that, not worth killing someone over but would be ok to curb the theives with a few broken bones

 

In the neighborhood next to mine, one guy was cutting them off while a lookout was posted next to him with an AR-15.

 

What part of Philly, not proud of it but grew up in and all around there it's a real big city and there are some high end parts that are with in walking distance to shit holes

Well I just looked it up on the map cause I wasn't familiar with that but it turns out that I used to roller skate right down the street from there every wed at the Philly skate plex for adult skates from 9-11:30 great times, not so much for waking up in the morning to go to work lol.... now for the serious part, do yourself a favor and grab the front and rear cat plates, it is north east Philly and while it is not the worst part by any means it's still Philly and they will come for them! I currently live an hour north of there and it is one of the very first things that I did for my truck

If your still in Houston, look up Valhallas Shields, he's up in the Cypress area around 249 and 99. Great guy but sometimes his Shields are on back order. Best to contact him.
