I don’t think I’ll get my OEM bed mat and moving on. Any recommendations for a good bed mat for my 6.5 bed? I’m not sure what type of protection for the tailgate, it will probably get a lot of wear also. Not really wanting to drill extra holes for a mat type protector on the tailgate.

Depends on your use case. A lot of us lighter duty users have bedrugs. They work great for gear and luggage under a tonneau cover and come in several varieties that cover just the bed, or also the sides and tailgate. And come out easily if you want to pick up a load of gravel or mulch. But if you are gonna mostly be hauling messy or heavier stuff the OEM would be the way to go.

I run a Rough Country bed mat, and i’m happy with it. It was under $100 on Amazon, and is made of very thick & heavy rubber.

Another vote for a BedRug. However, you can get a thick rubber 4' x 6' stall mat at your local Tractor Supply reasonably priced, if you have one. The mat has a raised pattern on one side and is flat on the other. You could put it in with the flat side up.

I definitely have a vote on the BedRug product, it gives a little cushion when moving around on my hands and knees in the box plus seems to keep things from sliding around back there. I also appreciate the fact it's one piece that goes from the tailgate to the cab and covers the gap between the tailgate and cab so things don't fall through.

I have the Bedrug XL with the tailgate piece and it is great besides being super light weight. You can kneel on it without feeling the uneven bed floor. Great for knees. I can toss things in the box and they don't slide around.

I didn't get the full sided one. Just the tailgate extension model.

Kept mine from 2.5 gen and had to cut down as the 3rd gen is smaller. Would have ordered new one but BA only makes it for long bed now. If hadn't kept old mat, would still order the long bed option and cut excess length. Which would've been much easier and cleaner than having to do the width !

I really like my OEM 6.5' bed mat and Mountain Hatch tailgate insert. The insert provides a flat work surface and it was a very easy install with no drilling required.

Definitely the Black Armor. Well worth the money.

Thanks! One other Q…. I have a drop in bed liner in my Tundra. When I watched the video for the Bed Rug XLT, it mentioned it doesn’t work well with bed liners at all. And that it only works with spray in liner or no liner at all. Seems the underside of the bed rug matches the contour of the original bed (or spray bed). Is this what you have experienced as well? Do you have a drop in liner on your Tundra, were you added a Bed Rug XLT?

It will replace the drop on liner. The bottom of the Bedrug has ribs that rest in-between the factory bed ribs making the floor flat. This will be my 3rd Bedrug. I like them. When I took the rug out of my last truck, there was not a single scratch or rub mark anywhere on the painted bed.

@lakai536 Where are you located? There is a 6.5' Bed bedrug on CR in the Vancouver area. This looks like a good deal if you are close enough to take advantage.

I'm out in Montana so unfortunately a little too far for a bed mat. Thanks for the heads up though!

The quality is good, IMO. I've hauled drywall, 3/4 plywood and construction material in general, firewood, Pelican cases, thrown power tools on it, and run it through the touch less car wash with no problems. It's holding up like a champ. Things aren't sliding around on top of it back there.

Les Schwab has the Black Armour mat for 6.5' bed. I got one a couple weeks ago for $146.

Just confirming you do not have a drop in liner correct? I’m an idiot and assumed just because I didn’t have bare metal, I had a drop in liner.

I’m curious because I also want to get the XLT, but it mentions no drop in liners.
