[IMG] Hi everyone! New to the forum and thought I may have found a good candidate for my first Tundra today. It’s a 2000 with just over 100,000 miles. Reasonably clean for its age and did have the frame replaced by the dealer at some point. I will get more details on this when I contact the dealer where it was maintained tomorrow. The frame looks great except for one spot and the front mount for the drivers side leaf spring. Looks like fairly serious corrosion in this area. I would love to hear your opinions on if this should be a deal breaker or not.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I’d advise to walk away unless you want to get a quote for welding in a new metal reinforcement for the frame to support a replacement bracket since the rest of the truck is fine. Strange how that would only rust on one side and not the other.

Walk away, that's not something easily repairable, and things are likely pretty bad in other places you're just not seeing.

If this thread isn't the reason you're here posting for advice, I recommend reading it.

I agree that it is strange, should have snapped a shot of the other side but it looked completely fine.

I did have a look through the thread and that’s what prompted me to share this photo with the experienced folks here. The truck has 166,000km but it hasn’t been driven much over the past 7 years. Timing belt was done at 149,000km but it was done in 2016 so is likely reaching end of life soon by time rather than mileage.

Another thing you may have to consider is whether shops in your area are willing to take on the liability of welding it correctly since it’s structural. Businesses here shy away from it because of liability.

Yeah, hard pass, you don’t want that no matter how good the rest looks.

Whereabouts are you, regionally, in case you're not comfortable with giving a ballpark to your nearest major city?

Also, are you hunting Tundra or Sequoia? If Tundra, which cab type, engine and drive type are you hunting? Any options you cannot live without?

How far you willing to travel for the right truck?

I am in Montreal. Looking for Tundra, V8, access cab, must be 4x4, not picky with the options. Not opposed to travelling for the right truck and would likely have to go south to find something rust free.

Other than Kijiji, I'm not familiar with resources you've got up your way. I've been there, but didn't do any car shopping :D

Go to the south, I did, pain in the ass, but well worth the ease of mind it gives you regarding longevity. Keep in mind tho as others will likely tell you that the location is never a guarentee of good maintenance and so you want a seller whose willing to provide you as much details and pictures b4 you commit or walk away.
