Is it worth replacing the stock sub in my truck with an aftermarket one and if I do will I have to have an aftermarket amp also?

It's absolutely worth it. The stock amp doesn't have much power so it would most likely not be better.

If you only want to add a sub there is a harness you can get to add the RCA out for an amp, I'd suggest a new head unit with pre amp outputs.

I upgraded the radio to a Sony touchscreen with Android auto but the sub just doesn't hit as hard as I like and there really isn't much room to add a new box

Some of the powered subs (internal amp) might fit under your seat.

Search on Crutchfield: Car Stereo and Audio, Speakers, Home Theater, Pro Audio, TVs and see what you can find..
They have a great return policy..
