2023 Tundra Automatic Bed Step

Anyone have installation instructions for the Tundra automatic bed step?

 

Thx for taking the time to help. Yes, I found one aftermarket. Right now only available through Toyota if it comes with the automatic package from the mfr. I have the 1794 with TRD package. Dealer said they can't do both due to risk of damage while off road. Impossible to find the automatic package.

Smitty Built has an auto step. I bought one from 4 wheel parts. It’s a dual motor too.

oem package is $1350 and included the bed step

if you drop the bed step and do the labor yourself, the smity is comparable in price

 

How have they held up for you so far? Like them?
How was the install - not much information on the SB site or 4wp

 

I am wondering the same thing, I just purchased some online they dont show up on 4wp anymore, but $1200 vs $1850 figured I would give them a shot they have a 5 year warranty as well. I was wondering if the use the same magnet thing to trigger or something different.

 

just installed automatic bed step onto my Tundra 2023 1794.
The installation instruction given to me by a Chinese guy and it worked perfect

you need to find white plug on the side on the bottom can panel.should have blue and white cable in the middle of the socket

 

Where did you order it from?

 

I ordered it from eBay, they sell it for 649$ but I negotiate and got it for 400$ including shipping from china and it delivered in 6 days

So. I bought this bedstep off of eBay. Offered the $400 and accepted. I got it in less than a week from china. This thing is well built and sturdy. Very easy to install. The directions suck and pretty useless if you’re trying to find the right harness to hook up trigger circuit. The seller on eBay was useless. I sent several messages and they never responded even once. I have the whole kit installed and only needed the correct factory wiring to tie into. At this point the step was useless and I started a return with eBay. As a last resort I pulled the power step ecu out and took the cover off to see if I could see what the circuitry looked like for a clue to the voltage source (electrician) luckily the OEM company was written on the circuit board and I was able to contact them directly. The company is AKM4x4. They are a Chinese 4x4 supplier. I was able to talk to tech support over WhatsApp and took two seconds to find the proper tie-in
This step works perfect and looks and acts just like OEM step.

 

Pictures or it didn't happen! People have a hard time trusting someone with only 2 posts when the first post you had said you bought Go Rhino running boards and bed liner for $2100. Looks like product plugging with no photos.

Ignore the haters, do you have more info on how you did this? Which wire did you tap?

The step comes down automatically when you open the tailgate or how does it work?

 

Yukonrider…. The step works automatically with either the key fob, tailgate handle or tail light switch. I have been using it for two weeks now and I am super happy. The instructions from the seller are horrible but it is super easy to install if you have any mechanical aptitude. Finding the right wire to connect to was impossible until I found the parent company and they sent me pics over WhatsApp posted a couple of pics but I couldn’t upload video of operation

 

Finally someone with a legitimate option. Do you have pics installed and maybe a video of operation?

 

I have a couple of pictures and a Video that will not upload to this forum for some reason. It might be a format issue. The purple box is the control module and mounts right at the connection point behind the left hand kick panel.

 

I had the dealer install a manual step on my 1794 TRD but they said there was no option for a powered step. Is there some way I can make it powered?

 

Yes, but likely not as an add to the factory manual step. I'm putting together a thread/how to on installing the import Auto Step off of eBay right now.

 

I have a different issue on mine (which still has under 500 miles on it). I have the step on my capstone edition but I also bought the bed extender so when I put the tail gate down, the step is out. Im wondering if theres something I missed relating to making the step stay in when the gate is down.

 

Just start driving and it will retract at like 3mph...

 

That would be great to see a detailed breakdown of how to install it. I'm planning on buying one off of eBay also. There are several for sale all around the same price, but I think it may be the same or just a couple different companies selling them. Definitely a risk to buy anything from China.

Have you had any issues with it since you installed it? Works as it should? No blown fuses or anything?

 

I have a 2024 1794 tundra with power tailgate step that is activated with tailgate drop. Has anyone figured out how to wire a switch to control the power step separately as i find when the step is not needed gets in the way and i have smashed my leg against the step several times in the month i have the truck. I am looking for the electrical schematic so i can figure out how to wire in a manual control switch. Thanks for any help provided.

honestly the thing has been money since I installed it, zero issues.

 

just installed this last night and it’s fantastic. I’ve got a hybrid, so I ran the power right to the battery under the rear seat. Install to about an hour.

 

in line fuse if right on the battery right?
