Get into a "close contact" during a 2AM driving yesterday. When I switched to the right lane at 40 mph, I didn't notice a Camry driving right next to me. I used my signal before my lane change but the Camry was completely hidden behind my passenger side doors, I haven't seen it even after two shoulder checks. Luckily we hit the brake in time, but both of us were freaking out.

It looks like it's time to install a night security system. My first thought is to install a light strip or at least some light to the side of my Tundra -- so someone would notice me when they are driving right next to me and haven't seen my headlight or taillight. A friend suggest me to install a genuine blind spot sensor from Toyota, but that could take up to $1000+. Hard to choose between those two -- the genuine BSM will end in better quality, and a light strip is cheaper but will do nothing if I couldn't notice the vehicle next to me.

I am an eight-month new driver. Thumbs up for any idea!

I always run convex spotter mirrors and I actually have blind spot monitoring on my truck. I currently have these ones on my truck now, they not only help with blind spots but also for parking close to curbs.

My mirror has convexes, but the vehicles are still invisible when they are small sedans and driving with you side-by-side. Is there a better place to put them on the mirror?

The ones i have are adjustable and i have them set so i can see the whole side of my truck and rear tire. They definitely help since there is a huge blind spot without them. I actually look at the little convex mirrors more than the actual mirror.

Sounds like a good mod. Will have those adjustable ones for sure.

Many people do not have their side view mirrors adjusted properly. I would start there.

Here is one video describing the proper way.
