110V plug behind mid-console. Is there any way to keep always on?

The minor issue I have is this plug behind the mid-console is energized by a button in the dash, by your left knee. My wife and I have owned a dozen cars and trucks with 110v plugs over the years and this is the first that I need to do an extra step to get power. My problem is I leave my phone charger hooked up to this plug, so I get in the truck, plug my phone into the cord, and begin driving. When I get to my destination and look down, that's when I see my 14% phone is now at 12%, instead of 50%, and I remember that this plug needs a quirky extra step...

Does anyone know if there's a way or a setting to toggle to keep this plug on at all times when the truck is on? Thanks in advance.

 

The 110v outlet does not have power when driving. The link above will bypass this useless feature and will power the outlet while driving but you still have to push that button on the dash. I dont think I've seen an alternate method for the dash button just yet. Most of us are just happy we can now power stuff on the go and we live with pressing the dash button.

 

The outlet does indeed have power while driving. I used it a couple weeks ago on a trip to charge my son's tablet while he watched it. Now from what I've read at that site with the harness, factory, it reverts to 100w when you take it out of park. To me seems silly.

 

My bad, thats what it does. I know i couldnt power a heated blanket one time and assumed it lost power...so it reverts to 100w, not 400?

 

From my understanding is it's 400w parked and 100w moving. It seems that it should be the other way around. I may be dyslexic also.

 

I wonder if it does this to reduce electrical load and not impact highway mpg. If it can support 400w at idle, then the alternator should be able to support it at higher rpm!

What am I missing? Don't understand why you want to charge phone via 110v plug. You are converting DC, into AC, to turn it back into DC to charge your phone. There are efficiency losses at each changeover that generate heat and wasted power. Just use a USB port in the console to charge your phone, as it is always on, closer, and has no conversion.

 

They're not on unless the truck is. As for the power outlet. In a pinch, I've used mine because my plug in charger is faster than even the USB-C port.

 

If the intent is to have a power source available 24/7, I'd hardwire a cigarette port straight to the battery and plug one of these in there

You can now control the inverter on the fly for a couple of bucks

 

I know it's not on unless the truck is on, but his question is not about a plug being on 24/7. He says when he is driving he forgets to push the AC button. Depending on the phone, usb-c will be just as fast as an AC smart charger, but there are some older phones that do better with their smart charger.

 

I totally forgot to offer a solution to OP. You could possibly wire in a module that sends a momentary pulse to the button, whenever the truck is turned on/started. I can't remember the Directed electronic part number , but we used to use them for automation and bypassing Alpine HU parking brake steps. Or possibly the same thing that you can wire in to auto disable the auto stop/start feature.

 

I agree, just clarifying so that anyone that stumbles across this doesn't think so. My phone can charge at up to 68watts. My USB-C to C charger is only 30watts but it still higher than the console USB-C.
