I think you may have misunderstood. It's a $50 per month difference, not $50 per month total. I could be misunderstanding though.

New customers don't get loyalty discounts. If you have a brain you know continued payment will get you more, but idiots that make policies are very short-sighted. It's the same mentality that has companies cutting OT and benefits when that is seldom the primary drain on a company's bottom line.

We had Nationwide before Amica. I liked my agent, but when they started jacking our rates for no reason and couldn't compete with Amica's offer so we made the switch. We doubled our coverage on home and auto and picked up an umbrella, while still paying less with Amica. We moved life insurance to Metlife, and doubled our coverage for the same money.

Amica doesn't cover motorcycles for whatever reason so I have Formost.

I've been running Progressive for over a decade, maybe a decade and a half. I have shopped others every time I get a new vehicle and at least once a year, and nobody has come close to their rates.

    Correct.

Here's my (additional) thought. Not to get on my soapbox, but I grew up poor as hell. Single mother raised 3 of us. We used to have those .29 cheeseburgers from McDonalds to last a month for dinner. Could never afford sports, movies, etc. Too poor for shit. Mom was not the best. She was too busy with work or getting engaged to someone. Fast forward, my brother and I move with my dad in a different state. I worked, volunteered, held a relationship, went to school, and played sports.
    Got my first car at 16 (2001?) was a POS 95 Ford Escort, prior rental car. 4 speed auto. I beat the shit out of that. I also learned;
    - How to repair parts
    - Change tires
-Not to drive like an idiot (Fast & Furious just came out lol)

I had to pay for my own fuel, insurance, school snacks, outings, whatever. Am I an ass if I ask our daughter to pay $100 a month of it? My thinking is it will teach her to be a safer driver as she'll be responsible for any additional payments (tickets, or accidents) and make her a little more financially disciplined.

Absolutely nothing wrong with having kids start paying for things. You get to be a child until you're 12. Then you have 4 years of adult training to prepare you for the world. Childhood is over.

I had to save for my 1st car. I had to pay for my own gas and insurance. The only help I got was my dad was a used car salesman at the time, so I never drove a shitbox. When Jettas were all the rage, I had an 87 Audi 4000 Quattro. It was a $5k car that I got wholesale for $3k.

But no...kids need to have skin in the game. My son pays for his gas and his insurance. He had a car fund that he somehow blew through so he's driving my Silverado. He lucked out there as it came with tints and a pretty good stereo with a 10" sub.

These babies right here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011BHNU5W?ie=UTF8 Absolutely love them. Combine with the bed stiffeners and oem bedrail tiedowns for mostest practicalness. Use them all the time for hauling kayaks and keeping things in place in the bed.

Thank you! I might have to pick something like that up soon. Just too handy, but I think I will look for some with closing hooks. Much appreciated!

Yeah, Ill never go back to regular ones. No mess and no tangles is fantastic. It's also really nice to always have tension, won't fall off whatever it's hooked to because of slack ( I know you said you're getting closed hook so that bonus might not mean much to you )

    The Dirty T

Wouldn't be an ass at all. When I was going to turn 16 and wanted to drive, I had to get a job. I got a job delivering pizza at night after school and the weekend. The deal I made with my dad was that I signed my paycheck over to him every week to pay for the use of the car and insurance. I got to keep whatever I made in tips to pay for my gas and spending money.

I should add- the POS car was the only thing given to me in life. I’ve never asked for handout. Purchased cars my own, house my own, own bills/credit building etc. Taught me to appreciate things. But I will always ensure our kids have a better life than I had. There have been many times I had to take things away so they can learn to appreciate the nice clothes, nice house, movies, fast food, sports (damn cheerleading is $$$) electric scooters, iWatches, phones, computers whatever. I didn’t get any of that shit lol.

Yep. I had a workers permit at 15.5. Got to leave campus at lunch at 16 as I had “workers experience” class weekly (learned how to interview, build resumes, build your career, etc. Part of that grade was the teacher meeting with your boss monthly to go over your performance or you’re tossed out of the class)

Not to be rude, but this is a flawed idea. Your job as a parent is to prepare them for the world so they can survive and thrive without anyone ensuring any quality of life for them except themselves. Ensure they are better people than you, and they will ensure they have a better life all on their own.

You’re not at all. I can see that too, but it’s to always make sure they have a better life than you had growing up while teaching them. At 16 and 10 it’s quality of life too

Wife and I were both latchkey kids. We agreed that our kids would never leave for the bus or get off the bus without one of us to greet them, and we have always had dinner at the dinner table as a family.

My kids grew up knowing I wouldn't coddle them if they fell, but I would be the loudest one chearing for them in any crowd.

I'm generous with them but they know it's not guaranteed generosity. My youngest almost never asks for anything. He was extremely reluctant to ask me to cover his $120 gym membership to get him through to when his two summer jobs start.

Some of his buddies are given everything right up to newer cars with gas cards. Those kids are in for a rude awakening when they gotta do it on their own.
