What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

If the pizza joint is La Prima, our friends ordered some pies for us last night to eat at their place. Was solid. Tomorrow hitting Hennessy lake for a 6mi loop, not sure what else is going on. Glass beach is on the list, and where we're staying in Manchester has more than 2-3 miles of private beach, apparently. Drive-thru tree is on the list. I love Old Rasputin, so North Coast was a must-go. I'll check out Ave of Giants. Appreciate the suggestions, we always leave a few hours of flex time here or there for extras.

 

Just came back from Ave of the Giants a month ago. It was incredible and definitely worth it. Had this place all to myself. Hidden little spot that technically was day use only, but no one bothered me at all. Or even showed up

Going down this rabbit hole currently. I will probably end up buying a kit for both my vehicles. While I was at T2S, a mouse made itself home in the Corolla's cabin filter. I took apart most of the Corolla's dash and sanitized the vents and everything the best I could, fished a Clorox wipe through the ducts with bailing wire. Really only want to deal with this once, so I'm doing everything I can to do it "right". Toyota has a good video showing the process you typed out:

Decided to believe the local weather report stating no rain this afternoon and sure enough it rained while I was starting to bleed my rear brakes. Muscled through the two rears and proportioning valve before it got too heavy because that’s how I roll.

(Actually I didn’t want to get caught and pay the $100 HOA fine doing it at home)

Speedi-bleed system worked but it was anything but speedy. Only dropped a couple psi on the right rear but not the left rear (weird).

Now need to wait for a break in the rain or do the fronts another day. Brakes are now much tighter. Looks like I had a lot of air in the rear brakes I guess. Now I don’t get a pronounced vibration in the front rotors when I brake at highway speeds.

 

Swapped in a reman CV since my old one was clicking and the outer joint has a little play.



Oil pan skid has been doing its job.

 

Do you remove the 4 LBJ bolts to swing the spindle out, or remove the castle nut and break the joint?

 

I do it it by removing the four LBJ bolts and swinging the spindle.

 

That then provokes a bonus question...do you reuse the bolts?

 

Figured that was coming, yes They have 30,000 miles and this is the third time this set will be taken off and put back on. I will apply the Harbor Freight medium strength thread locker again.

Before these, I did reuse my originals a few times. If I had the smaller bolts, I would probably replace them every time.

 

My weather Dominatrix said we'd get rain today & I got none. Cut down 4 trees, cleaned it all up. Thought about cleaning the truck, but nah. So basically I ignored my truck today.

 

Yeah, it hasn’t let up around here yet. It’s just a miserable dull and dreary day with rain continually falling as a mist and fluctuating in intensity.

 

Where do you get the reman axles from local dealer?

 

From a local Toyota dealer - part number 43430-0C010-84. There's a few other threads on here where I've discussed these remans before.

 

So how do people here get access to the bolts with an impact to remove your wheel axle from the rear axle housing for changing wheel bearings?

Looks like you need to remove the rear brake lines, the parking bell cranks and the U-bolts/plates holding the rear axle to the leaf springs to get enough clearance.

Or is everyone here just using a long ratcheting wrench?

 

Socket and extensions/ ratcheting wrench works. U-bolts don't need to be touched, but if you're pulling the rear axle shafts, the rear brake lines gotta come off. There's a little clip and pin on the bell crank for the e-brake line that comes out easy.

 

Just a quick wash and drive to keep her running. Tucked away afterward; couple of hundred miles under 78k..




(Getting gravel in a couple of months for the pole barn)

 

consider putting a sheet of plastic under the truck. moisture comes up from under daily, gravel or not. It's amazing how fast a vehicle parked on a dirt barn floor will rust out underneath while looking cherry topside.
I'd lay a long pole under the center of the truck, lay out a sheet of plastic & park on the plastic. The pole gives slope to dissipate any moisture on the plastic, encourages it to drain off. Plastic only slightly wider/longer than the truck.

I sort of gave up somewhere between year 5 and year 10 unless it’s covered in yellow pollen. I hate that stuff.

The only other time is during the winter to get the salt off.

Just kidding... but on a serious note though, I was just being a little jealous of the fact that so many of you on this side of the forum handle your own major repairs. I don't have the space or mechanical skill/knowledge to have done this repair on my own (The tranny one; I think I could've handled the lower oil pan ).

 

Pretty sure I own the title of least qualified mechanic here. Line starts at my ass.

 

Took off the body side moulding, patched holes, changed color.

 

I was about to ask how in the hell you got such a clean finish painting outside like that, then quickly realized you wrapped the sumbitch. very nice. Color upgrade for sure

 

swapped my corner bulbs for some yellow leds, first thing ive done on this thing in awhile haha
