This post is the best source of info.

This is also our install guide. I need to update it and hope to get some better photos for it next week.

Do you have them on your site? I only saw the engine and the whole skid package.

After looking at the box in my garage for about 6 months, I installed the plates today. I was hoping to have my son help, but he broke his arm and ankle while warming his bike up last weekend and will be out of commission for a while. I have the TRD skid plate but not the Talons Garage nut plate. I only loosened the rear 2 bolts on the TRD skid plate and slid the Talons plate above it. It didn’t want to go all the way due to the vertical bend at the rear of the Talon plate hitting the frame. With a little persuasion it finally went. For those of you with TRD plates, did you also have this problem or did you loosen more than the just the rear 2 bolts on the TRD plate?
I then moved to the rear of the Talon plate and installed the square spacers and loosely installed the bolts and nuts. The next challenge was to sandwich the Talon transfer plate between the square space and the Talon trans plate. With only 2 hands, this was slightly challenging but not impossible. Next I loosely installed the brackets to frame and to the rear of the Talon transfer plate.
Now the fun part. Tightening the front fasteners at the TRD plate. Originally I taped my wrench to a broom stick and slid it in from the rear and onto the nut while holding that contraption, I used my impact to snug it up. Worked well but only for the passenger side. I may have been able to finagle the contraption to the driver side, but it tightened without a wrench on top. Moving to the back of the Talon trans plate, I reached from the back of the Talon transfer plate and was able to hold the nut with the wrench without much difficulty. Last part was to tighten the fasteners on the brackets. Watch your brake lines and fuel lines, and use a deep well socket on a impact on the inside of the frame and ratchet on the outside. Made sure no tools were under the truck and took her for a short ride to confirm no noises of any kind.
Once home and cooled off I checked all the fasteners to confirm they were tight. During this Inspection I found out I’m able to reach between the oil pan and get a flex head wrench on the nuts above the cross member. The Talon nut plate would have been a lot easier but it’s not impossible to do without. By the way, my truck has the stock TRD off-road suspension and I did not use jacks, Ramps or any lifts. Now that I know what I’m doing with it, it shouldn’t be hard to remove and reinstall down the road. (I might have to remove the TRD plate or at least loosen more bolts though)

Does anyone else have tips or tricks to assist with the install?

I just received and installed the steel engine skid plates. Happy except for the Allen head bolts. I rounded one out tightening it up. Happened far easier than I thought it should. Maybe I got a dud. I emailed and asked for a few replacements.
What are the threads on these if I just want to replace with a regular bolt?

Hey, in eyeballing for install, discovered oil changes, they left off the 'outside' skid plate bolts and the three bolts that hold the bumper underwrap to the frame/skid plate. Do I need to replace those bolts or does full kit include all bolts I need, including those/replacements?

    Thanks,
    Steve

And, I'll be taking back changing my oil...if you want it done right...

That works great on aluminum drift boats. Iirc, they use two main attachment methods. One is some sort of vacuum adhesion process, the other rivets it on. It’s a great idea.

I also rounded out 1 of the bolt while installing my 1st talons cat shield. I'm also interested at knowing the bolt sizes and pitch so I can just purchase extra bolts for the 2nd shield I ordered a few minutes ago.

@Talon2006, would you have updated install iinstructions that account for the 3rd gen TRD skid plate?

Did you send us a message on the contact me page? If you responded to one of the notification emails we might not get it. I know the note is a little small on those. We will typically send a replacement bolt if it happens. The 3rd gen plate uses M8 1.25 bolts.

I am currently boarding a plane, but reach out on our contact us page and our office manager can look up your order and send you one.

I did a bunch of testing on our Allen head bolts, to the point of putting a 3’ cheater bar on them. I twisted the bit before I stripped the bolt. The most common reason to strip an allen head is 1, not getting the bit all the way in, 2. A slightly worn bit. If you have stripped a bolt already, the bit might have some wear on it. I had this problem myself and it was actually pretty hard to see the wear, but once i saw it it made sense. 3. Using impact tools, but this mostly is due to sending it with a big dog Milwaukee.

The 3rd gens use 2 m8x1.25x40mm and 3 3/8-16 4” . Shoot us a message on the contact us page and we can get it sorted.

Just wanted to shoot out a little PSA.

The wife and I are leaving on a little adventure! We will both likely lose cell service starting tomorrow, and won’t have it for a week.

As a business owner this is terrifying, but we have a great team in place to take care of the shop while we are going. That being said, any super complex questions or issues might have a slight delay in response while we are gone!

Got the steel engine skid set.
So what is the point of the 1/4 spacer washers? I believe they go on front two and back two bolts between the skid and the frame. The middle two have none since the two plates overlap here.

Am I correct in the placement of them? And what is the purpose of them?

Need some help...I have them all on, but can't tighten the nuts on rear engine/front trans...no way to get my hand in there, or a wrench that'll reach, on the driver's side. From Talon's instructions/photo, it looks like, bottom to top, is: engine plate, engine adapter(flat bar with threaded inserts), trans plate, frame/crossmember, large washers, lock nuts. Is that correct?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks, mine's 2020, so it's through holes in the crossmember, not threaded. I guess Toyota got the memo on the gen3s! :)

Do you have the plate with nuts on top? If not not a big deal. You should be able to reach your left arm between the oil pan to access the nuts with a wrench.

So the plate with nuts go on top? That makes sense! I'll blow it apart and do that!
Just their instructions (both text and photo) show bottom, with just washer and lock nuts on top, and I can't get my arm in there enough to get a wrench on the nut. If I somehow did, then tightened the plate, I think I'd be trapped (which puts a picture in my head that makes me laugh).

    Thanks, appreciate it!

That did it! Isaac with them also responded to my email. The 'nut plate' goes on top...I didn't see anything about that in the attached instructions. I spent the morning tearing it all off (remove rear cat plate, rear trans plate, loosen engine plate, move nut plate to top, then all back on and tighten). On a shakedown run for noise and lunch, then I'll post updated photos).

    Thanks!

Are people still having some problems installing the cat shields with the TRD PRO skid plate? I want to purchase but not sure how the fitment will be with the skid plate.

I installed 07-21 cat shield and TRD Pro skid plate a couple weeks ago. No issues. The nut plate makes the job easier, but its not impossible without it. Many have done it.
