Using the parking brake doesn't repair the parking pawl

think i'm gonna wanna line lock setup in case i get hung up mid climb, or need to get out and inspect a decline.

makes climbing in easier than my non-spaced tires and hopping in an open tailgate. 1 step up, the other step over. And the type of person to tailgate is the same type of person to warp a block trying to chase me.


i need at least 4" of lift to make this fit relative to the truck. Like a hotwheel. How bad are bracket lifts really? What if you add lots of bracing?

Could fix it by refiling the flats. I couldnt find a a340 trans brake.

 

It got locked? The one over here in 1GT? Man, I missed a lot while I was away. Just landed about 90 minutes ago, had to wake up at 3am to hit the airport.

I can fit both small tents in the nook for the big tent. Tent for stuff & tent for sleep is a pretty good combo. ESpecially if you can leave camp.

 

What did you do? Did you throw the gear shift into park while in 4wd with the wheels coasting? I know someone who's done that.

 

This last trip, I had my parking brake barely set and I put it in park on a decline to open a cattle gate to pass through. Truck was in 2WD. Kept the driver's door open. About two seconds later the truck starts slipping forward and it sounds like a machine gun. Luckily I was not in front of the truck because I was moments away from getting ran over. Adrenaline takes over and I jump in the truck, stomp on the brakes just as it's smashing the gate open. I get the truck to safety and put it neutral, catch my breath, and run it through all the gears (including 4WD). Then continue to wheel the truck for another 2500 miles. @RUSTYNUTS witnessed it in person.

I haven't gotten my parking brake setup like I need it, and I actually snapped one of my cables on this last trip. I really don't care for the cables that SOS provided with their kit. I've been exploring line locks and a Wilwood parking brake. With some work, I could potentially run the drum-in-rotor parking brake at the same time as the Wilwood parking brake. I think I'd want to do manual line-locks and only use them in wheeling situations like the gate, not for longer use.

When that solution is fixed I want to go ahead and just fix the potentially damaged parking pawl. Looks like it's about $75. If I drop the tranny pan to look for debris, I gotta pull the skids. Not hard, just time consuming and I don't want to do it twice in case the pawl actually goes. From there, it looks like pulling the filter and valve body, then three bolts to get the pawl out.

 

@des2mtn Do you feel any play when putting into park now on the smallest of inclines? That should tell you if it's significantly worn out; at least what I was told.

 

Yes, I think that I do. This is actually the second time it's happened, but the other time the truck barely rolled a foot. From a liability standpoint, I would feel better changing it.

 

Where is the pawl? I'm not familiar with it. When I'm on a hill and put the truck in park, it always shifts a tiny amount. I assumed this was normal.

 

what kind of gains did your buddy see?

 

On the bottom of the transmission inside the pan. It should shift a little bit, unless you've forced it into park while your truck is moving, or you've seen some sort of abuse like mine, I'm sure yours is fine.

 

Is that all (remove valve body)? You might as well replace any sticky shift solenoids while you're at it. haha

Thanks for that. Yeah it looks like not a lot much more. I'll end up servicing the filter too, Toyota did that about 80k ago, but I've done drain and fills since them.

 

When you go to park form low gear, do you shift slowly or like you normally would go from drive to park? I noticed on my truck if I go like normal from low to part, it makes a loud noise, so now I go slowly and it's quiet

But in all seriousness, the stabby/jabby synths and stuff you'll find in his pre-solo crap was a huge driver and inspiration to bands, like Front Line Assembly. EDIT: He's also regarded as one of the top 10 drummers of all times, and probably one of the most terrible-at-marriage people out there.

Yes, but low gear is at the bottom of the shift column, it's not a button.

There's one of these for sale in town omw to work. ~80k miles, 2014ish IIRC. Dudes asking $17k OBO. I was seriously thinking about making a lowball offer until I found out the TSX wagon only came with a 4 banger and 5spd auto while the top of the line TSX sedan had a V6 and 6spd manual. Hard pass. I never been a big fan of wagons unless they were muscle cars anyways. But if the price was right, it would probably save me a ton of fuel commuting for work. Who dafuq buys a Honda/Acura with an auto trans?
