Hi all, new here, been reading multiple threads related to my issue but cant find an exact match to my scenario so here it is…..
I have a 2018 Tundra 1794 5.7, love the truck but been have an issue after installing a Rough Country Cold Air Intake. Prior to putting the intake in myself, I never had this issue. I keep getting lean codes for both bank one and two (P0174, P0171 codes) as well as a mass airflow code. I have tried cleaning the mass air flow sensor with the proper cleaner and letting it dry but to no avail. I have also checked for vacuum leaks and tightening clamps and hoses but hasnt fixed anything. This occurs every second start up after clearing the code, and since my trucks a 2018, I get malfunctions pop up for Pre-Collision and Trailer Brake in lieu of when the engine light comes on. Ive tried disconnecting the battery and waiting hours to see if it will reset but that hasn't fixed it (note I have not disconnected the negative terminal or touch both positive and negative). I have also tried putting the stock air box and filter on but that didnt work. So this is why Im lost, my truck has an extended warranty from Toyota but don't want to go there as I have altered the engine bay. I also have pulled my plugs to see if they were fouling and aswell as taking a snake camera and seeing down the cylinder head on both sides. The idle surges slightly when only the engine is cold and clears up after that. I have no performance problems under hard acceleration nor does it stall. I am pretty mechanically inclined but Im pretty sure I have cooked my MAF sensor. What are your thoughts?

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Did you spray starting fluid around all the seals and connections checking for a leak?

I have not tried a smoke test or spraying anything to look for vacuum leaks…. I guess I can start with that. Is there any visual cue that I could see with a naked eye to see whether or not my MAF sensor is broken.

:deadhorse: You already had a CAI. They are a waste of money. Disconnect the battery, put the stock back in with a high flow filter, and send the RC back.

Pretty sure there is an engine code for a bad MAF sensor. If it’s not there the MAF is probably fine. I’d start by looking at everything you messed with during the swap.

I want to say that someone in the past installed the MAF sensor backwards.....I don't recall if it is possible or not.

Oiled filter can be an issue if it is close proximity to the MAF. Cleaning can help, in my case it only delayed the inevitable. You can try a dry filter after MAF cleaning.

P0101 is what he should see for MAF code.

Difficult to do so unless the screw points are loose. There is also an arrow indicating airflow unless it is an aftermarket MAF.

@Saltyhero13 No I wasnt that code I was getting a different one. Along the lines of “Mass Air Flow Circuit Range Performance”

Understand. If there was a specific code it may help others help you.

If it is not a leak (sounds like it is) is the intake larger than stock?

So there are more codes than the two listed in the first post? Probably important to mention those additional code(s)…

    I stand corrected, the codes are P0171, P0174, P0101, and P0113

Okay - those indicate both MAF sensor and intake temp sensor aren’t functioning properly. Feel like there is more to this story still…

what made you say the MAF was “cooked”? Maybe a pic of those connections under the hood would be helpful if figuring out the problem…

I said it was cooked because I got my buddy to hold a bag over the filter to choke it after clearing the codes and I get codes right away on my scanner, when choking the filter should make it run rich…..

Are there any damaged pins on the MAF? How about the harness?
Did the kit come with a harness?
