Changed rear differential oil, transfer case oil. Drained transmission to do a couple spill and fills, only to find that my last two crush washers had something fall on them and bend them. So, I have to get more before I finish it up.
Also tried to change the front differential oil, only to find that I cannot get the drain plug out because the hole in the plug stripped. Tomorrow, I will try heat and chisel. Once it is out, I am going to drill the hole in the plug out to fit a bolt. I'll have my buddy tig the bolt into the plug, then put a nut on the bolt and tig that in place.
Tomorrow, I will also change the spark plugs.

So I'm not completely happy with my front camera placement. I want to move it higher onto the grille and point it downward so it can see the entire front bumper. But here's a closeup and wider shot and the head unit showing the camera:

Pressing F shows the front camera until you press the middle button (M for some reason).

I bought an instrument cluster from a 2010 Limited on eBay for $61 and I wasn't sure it would work because of the difference in years, so I did a temporary install just to test it before sending it off to have the mileage corrected.

Everything works perfect... But now I'm too lazy to take it back out so my mileage is going to be 30,000 miles over. Doesn't matter if I never sell it and I plan to keep this truck until I die in 43 years.

Anyway it's a HUGE visual upgrade-it looks way nicer. It also means the information display next to the clock always shows the temperature, but I can see different information in the digital display, such as MPG or miles to empty. It has the tinted cover so it's just black when off:

This is one of my favorite mods. The only downside for me is that it won't adjust dim enough for my preference. There are even more settings that this cluster allows you to access that would normally require Techstream, like headlight timer and others that escape me at the moment. I think that the replacement lenses are ~$20 if yours is a little scratched.

@07 Tundie although I have answered the second Gen. question a number of times, I suppose I could have missed answering a few times the question was asked. The FRAC Harness is designed for plug and play installation with the 2014-2021 Tundras and other Toyotas in the same era. There is no plan to change that due to the number of different connectors used before 2014connectors However, my basic switching circuit will work with any vehicle and I am looking into developing procedures to use the FRAC Harness in a way that would be less plug and play but more adaptable to multiple year models. I'm balancing this against the number of hours in a day as well as the desire to keep the reliability and quality as good as possible.

Engine light, TC light on, and 4lo flashing. Wire harness at the tranny and a speed sensor replaced and all's good so far after 240 miles.

Got the front diff drain plug out. Ended up tack welding a welded nut/bolt onto it.

Edit: Lexus plugs ordered. Should be available to pick up tomorrow.

Replaced upstream and downstream O2 sensors on bank 2 (passenger side). The downstream undid easy but the electric connector was a beggar to release, conversely the upstream was easy to release the connector but the bloody thing was tight and of all 4 sensors would be the one that had no swing room for the wrench.
Also finally got around to fitting the brand new tire that's been sat on it's rim in my carport for several months now (see previous posts about tranny woes to understand why so long), normally I change my tires in pairs because I'm a skinflint who refuses to chuck out a tire if there is still life in it and I don't like paying for four tires in one go. Would normally have put it on the back to complement the new tire I put on literally days before the tranny took a shit but left the spare where it was and removed the one on the front that I know has a bust TPMS sensor - it's been more than 12 months since that happened and I'm more than ready to eliminate that blasted dash light.
    And cleaned the MAFsensor.
And cleaned the K&N filter, which is now sat on the kitchen breakfast table and should be dry enough to oil and install prior to my 110 mile morning commute.

Won't know if the sensors are working until 6am tomorrow and will be a trifle twitchy from now until I turn the key to warm her up in the morning...

rear and front diff needs synthetic 75w-90 and the trans is synthetic as well. If you're having the dealer do it, have them flush the transmission and then drop the pan and change the filter. (if you're wondering my credentials, I'm a mechanic.) I would recommend using Valvoline's diff fluid, a lot of people also do mobile one, definitely use valvoline's maxlife transmission fluid. And if you're changing the diffs you should do the transfer case as well (all three need to be changed every 60k miles)

One thing my father never replaced on the truck before I go it was spark plugs. I just removed #1 plug, by hand. It was so loose I thought I had the wrong socket and it was sitting on top of the plug, until I noticed the socket coming out. Mind you, this was a socket on an extension with NO ratchet, just my fingers.
160k on original plugs with the first one I pulled not being tight.

Rear bumper is finally here and on. RanchHand.
I got it for $907 shipped from Amazon.
I don’t think I could be more impressed with its quality or craftsmanship.

it doesn’t match my mall crawler front bumper but I wanted something super solid bc locally there’s been a lot of rear end accidents from distracted drivers I guess, not sure but I do feel safer now.

PSA - a friend got T-boned pretty bad, truck totaled and the only lasting issue he has is bc his head hit the “oh crap” grab handle. His head looks pretty bad from where it hit and there are some cognitive concerns now.

so today I decided to remove the A pillars and figure out a way to attach some paracord grab handles. Only issue is that the OEM handles sit against the pillars in a very weird and curvy way.

I hacked off the ends with a saws all and gonna try to fab something up lol. Gotta love impulsive mod ideas.

EDIT - added progress pics. it’s secure, just ugly at this point.

I've been using the same unit for about a year now. I also bought some cheap $30 side view cameras and wired into the signal from my turn switch. Now I get Tesla style blind spot video when I use my blinkers.

More details here and pictures of front mounted camera:

Got the front diff plugs replaced with Lexus plugs and refilled the diff. Drained and filled transmission, but didn't get to getting the fluid level checked since I ran out of time. Tomorrow, I will get the trans fluid level set and grease the U-joints.
I am going to order a new carrier bearing and u-joints to replace them later. The u-joints are good, but the carrier bearing has a bit of clunk up and down.

I was hoping someone would inquire, thx Retro.

it was actually in a new TRX Ram “BUT” their handle is in the exact location as our 2nd gens - See pic below.

idk about seatbelt, I gotta ask him next time I see him.

I also sat in my truck and thought there’s about a 1% chance I could come into contact with this handle but it’s the same geometry as the TRX so IDK.
It’s probably unnecessary but what else am I gonna do with all this free time I have lol

Today I am rough cutting in the passenger side handle. Gonna chop these surgical like lines and atleast get it to a secure working state.

I will wrap A pillars in suede to match the headliner.

I’ll do B pillars next but think they will be easier.

I bought 2 different sets of paracord grab handles so I can experiment.
I don’t care for the Seven Sparta handles from Amazon but do prefer the Yota Twins grab handles.

here is a seven Sparta I have and tried to use it as an interior tailgate handle but I’m gonna return them I think and buy more YotaTwins handles.

Dropped her at the shop with a cylinder 6 misfire. The check engine light started blinking about 3 miles in on the drive to work. Bluetooth OBD shows P0306. Drove 25 minutes to the shop and left it for them. I don't have time to diagnose it myself or be without a truck in the middle of the week. Hoping it is something simple they can take care of today.

Replaced battery with Interstate from Costco, can’t beat the price. Oil change Kirkland Signature’s Full Synthetic, again can’t beat the price.

Impressed my OEM battery made it 10 years. It probably would’ve kept going, but there was decent corrosion and we’ve got a number of long haul camping trips planned.

Got tired of trying to get the user PIDs for the transmission to work with OBD2 Fusion. So, just ordered the Toyota PID pack. Letting the trans cool back down before I go check the level.
