Thanks for the extra info on the MT camera handle. That was my other concern: How flimsy it felt. My OEM feels great. I also don't love the thought of having to dick with wires any time you want to remove the tailgate (which I do...)

 

That's weird, I thought 05 is when it became mandatory? Maybe it was actual 05, not model year?

 

It drives me a little bit batty, having half my overall fleet withj TPMS and half without. But without digital pressure on the display, the value is reduced to me.
A bluetooth add-on receiver which can display to the head unit via camera interrupt might be cool. Or just direct to the phone (they have them, just that it's so easy to be lazy and DGAF on TPMS, yeah?)

Well I was a little off. According to the almighty Wiki:

"This act affects all light motor vehicles sold after September 1, 2007. Phase-in started in October 2005 at 20%, and reached 100% for models produced after September 2007."

My 05 corolla had it, so I guess Toyota just picked cars to start with.

 

Then I would consider doing that "JDM" guy on YT's one where he drilled his OEM latch instead. I think I would do this if mine weren't broken just so I didn't have to repaint.

 

Any chance you happen to know the details on the spare tire TPMS on Tacomas? I've read some mixed bag stuff. My dad has an '06 SR5 DCSB and at some point I need to get his TPMS situation squared away for him, ideally at next tire swap. I got him in 17's (old school 4Runner wheels w a 17" spare as well).

 

That would be pretty cool. That's one thing about the newer trucks that's pretty nice. That and some off that angle finder like old 4runners.

 

I've seen you say that a few times and I definitely don't love the feel of the FGT tailgate handle, nor the 2nd gen Tacoma handle. The 3rd gen Taco handle is great though.

For wires, at some point I need to do a connector to allow tailgate removal. That is on my list.

Hopefully getting the alignment fixed today. I think what happened is that they aligned it with the steering wheel crooked. It tracks mostly straight down the road but the wheel is cockeyed. If I force the wheel to be straight it then pulls to the right.

 

No details, other than what I've read over the years at Tacoma World but as you say, mixed bag !

No. I think they just screwed up.

It's crazy that getting a proper alignment is so difficult around here. I'm not sure if it's because they mostly work on Jeeps. Wheel is now straight but truck still pulls a little to the right. Not horribly. I give up. I tried to tell him twice it's likely the split caster that @assassin10000 mentioned but they wouldn't listen. I'm glad it is at least better and will just live with it being a little off.

 

Yeah, ultimately I hate drilling OEM sheet metal. But I'd truly prefer having something that could be unplugged while the tailgate was intact, without having to pull wires in/out of a grommeted hole. But that would require drilling, having some kind of waterproof, fixed wire mount inside the tailgate to plug into, and I just don't see anyone out there who'd want to put out such a kit because it'd be $$$$$

 

Too bad they won't have an alignment rack at T2S....

 

The funny thing is that I already thought that. They could probably do just as good without the Hunter machine.

 

Well, the extractor didn't work either. So I had to drill it out (.196" - closet to 5mm I had) using these extensions and bendy things, then tap by hand (M6 x 1.0). The local Ace Hardware had the flange bolt I needed. Both sides are done and torqued down. Tomorrow I'll re-torque, and fire her up to check for leaks. (I hope I didn't leave my 10mm socket in there...).

So wait, did you say you haven't done the other side yet? Take it on a drive to heat things up first, then 1/8 turn tighten before loosening on the remaining

No, both sides are done. I was able to do the passenger this morning (scroll up) while I was waiting for the drone to bring the tools. I was without event.

Next on the list:
1. Install new Denso radiator before the current one fails.
2. Install rebuilt Denso alternator before the current one fails

 

You gonna upgrade to 130amp alt?

 

I don't give a fuck about these wheels. They'll be snow/ice rims if I keep em. I've got some 4runner rims to throw on once I figure out tireage

I replaced my broken handle with an OEM painted handle and added my own camera. I never remove my tailgate so this piece isn't a problem.
One could move the camera to one side or the other but it works best in the middle. And after opening the tailgate a few times you just naturally grab around it.

 

Yeah scissor that camera!!!
