Purchased a 2019 Tundra in January (2023). I learned, after I purchased it, that there is no parking sensors in the front. Am looking for a way to see or feel how far I am away from the wall in garage as well as how far from other cars/trucks when pulling into a parking slot. I was thinking of mounting a wireless camera (wifi) on the front, but I only want power to the camera (12v) when the ignition is On. I plan to place an inline fuse leading to the camera. Any suggestion as to where I can tap into a line or into the fuse box for power that is only on when the tundra is running?

    Thanks

    Too many, but not enough....
Look into the front anytime camera. Its a camera in the front just like your rear, and it has a switch so you can use it anytime you want. Cost you around 200 bucks. One of the best mods I did.

The FRAC harness will work with a wireless cam receiver just as easily as with a wired camera. I provide an ignition power source in my harness that could power your receiver in the head unit bay.

As for the engine bay, there are ignition sources there as well. I’ll be in the office tomorrow and can look up the details for you if you’d like. That way you can run the wireless front cam, avoiding any wiring between the engine bay and cabin, and still get all the FRAC features. If that’s of any interest let me know and I’ll be happy to assist.

I've got a wireless front camera setup and would like info on how to wire it up so it's only powered up when the ignition is on.

I actually have the FRAC harness for the 2020-2021 Tundra. Does this install with an aftermarket HU? I have a Pioneer WT7600. This unit allows the viewing of the front or back camera but you have to go through the menu. I'd like to have it go to the supplied FRAC Harness switches so it's easy to turn on/off.

@KTMRider, Your FRAC Harness is compatible with any aftermarket head unit that utilizes plug-and-play adapters to connect the factory harnesses to the new HU. Connect your two FRAC Harness connectors to the same truck harnesses that you did before and then plug the other end of the two FRAC connectors into the matching plug-and-play adapters for your Pioneer. (Make sure to use the correct 28-pin connector for the 28-pin FRAC connections - there are two identical 28-pin plugs on the factory HU) Then disconnect your front camera video RCA plug from the Pioneer and plug it into the open front cam RCA connector on your FRAC Harness. Finally, utilize the Red Ignition power lead on the FRAC harness to power your front camera. Should be that simple.

So it works, but too good....it seems to always be on. Switch to back camera, all good, it shows the bask. Switch to middle (off ) and I get front camera. Switch to front and I still get front. So it seems like I can't turn it off. Any suggestions?

This is happening because the trigger for camera display is always on. In the stock configuration, I provide that trigger through the FRAC harness via the Camera switch. So a couple of suggestions...

Check to make sure there is no camera mode enabled on your head unit. I'm not familiar with your specific Pioneer unit but there should be a menu that allows you to turn off the back camera input to the head unit. If this is on, it may be sending the trigger for camera mode at all times. You don't need this to be on, since the rear camera video is coming through the truck harness into the FRAC harness and it is controlling when to turn on the camera view.

Next, make sure that the OEM-style Camera switch is wired properly. If you have the Red wire connected incorrectly it could cause the issue you are seeing. Also if you bought the OEM switch from another supplier, please make sure that there is no diode installed on the back of the switch connector. This is the connection configuration info.

If none of this helps and the switch is properly configured, make sure that the 28-pin connector is plugged into the proper place on the adapter. I mis-typed 30-pin connector in the earlier message, but it is the 28-pin that can fit into two different locations on the factory HU.

Let me know how it goes.

Ok, I'll try that when I get home. I did buy the OEM switch with the FRAC harness and the red wire is connected top the red from the red/white/blue :oldglory:

Perfect! I have a feeling you'll be able to fix this in the menu options. Let me know!

No, I couldn't get it to work. I took it out and I can get the front camera to come on and drive around with it on. It's not the push button I was hoping to get but it's 2 touches no the touch screen and it's on.

You mention “in the stock configuration”, what does that mean? As far as the pin connections, I tried all options and when I moved the 28 pin connection to the other one that would fit the radio wouldn’t work so I’m confident its connected right. The harness is a nice setup would love to get it to work.

Or is there a way to just hook up a 3-way switch in my current configuration so I could activate the front camera? I can view the camera while driving so that’s not an issue, just would like to have it activated by a switch.

I was referring to the Stock Head Unit when I said stock configuration. The symptoms you provided tell me that the video trigger is always seen as "On" when you installed the FRAC Harness with your Pioneer Unit. In the FRAC harness and Stock head Unit configuration this trigger is controlled by the camera switch. Since you confirmed that it is wired properly, the issue seems to have something to do with the Pioneer wiring or settings. That's why I suggested turning the camera input off for the head unit. I did a little more research on your Pioneer and there is also a camera polarity function in the menu. The stock polarity is positive-On, Negative-off. Not sure if that will make a difference or not.

Another thought I had goes back to the Cam Switch. The Black wire MUST be connected to a good ground for the switch to work properly. This is true even if you are not utilizing the optional illumination wires (Blue/Gray). I know you probably had this connected properly but I'm just trying to rule out anything that could be causing the issue. Which leads to another thought... do you recall if the status lights for each position on the switch illuminated properly? I'm talking about the small rectangular amber indicator lights for each position. They should be off when the switch is off (center position) and on in each respective location when Front or Rear are selected.

Hey Lou, I really appreciate all the help withh this. At this point in time I still haven't got it working correct and have taken it out due to pure frustration. I am thinking about trying it again as I am just stubborn....;)

OK, so I figured it out. If you have an aftermarket head unit you don't need the FRAC Harness or any other bypass harness. You can just program a steering wheel control to do it using the Maestro module. I programmed the talk button to view the front camera and the hang-up button to control the rear view camera. Push the button once it goes to that camera, push it again and it goes back to the radio. All is good now.
