Hopefully that will not be the case.

No manufacturer wants another engine with a reputation like the Ford 6.0L diesel.

To reinforce your point, it's closer to 117K produced and sold.

Paws crossed you’re all good now. What’s the break in procedure for the new engine?

ToyCorp's procedure is to avoid using the starter until the short block warranty has expired.

Then use starter as per the usual method.

This is the second post I've seen about breaking in the engine. Why? Isn't first oil change after a few thousand miles enough? When did our trucks get so fragile? Maintaining them to last a long time is a different story than this break in period.

Why? Because a ton of engineers who built and designed these motors came to enough of a consensus and agreed following those instructions would help extend the life of the engine and components. I can get into more technical reasons, but that alone is reason enough for me. I am not an engineer and I certainly don't design and build motors. As far as your second question..every vehicle I have owned since 2003 which includes a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Honda, Hyundai and four Tundras has had break in procedures listed in the manual.

Maybe because Toyota recommends it? It's right there in the owners manual....

Careful with that water. Might get some in the intake and cause Toyota to get blamed for a crappy motor ;)

I wonder how many people really let their turbo charged engine in the Tundra idle for a minute. For example, going down a highway and pulling into a rest stop to take a leak. I bet the number of folks that do that is small.

Same, I’ll even turn the remote start to allow it to cool.

The coolant loop for the turbos is separate and has an electric water pump. If you turn it off when very hot it will keep the turbo coolant loop running. Of course it’s always better if you keep the oil circulating as well.

I thought the auto stop could not be disabled on the hybrid engine.

A bit disheartening, I am about to have an early 10K service on my 2022 Platinum prior to a 4K+ mile road trip. I guess I better check everything myself afterward!
Sounds like it is going to get heated between the two dealerships, hopefully Toyota has a corporate investigator to really handle the situation. Good luck!

I've compared the 2023 Toyota Tundra Owner's Manual (page 176) and the 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Owner's Manual (page 172) and only the gas version owner's manual makes reference to idling after high-speed driving or hill climbing to prevent damage to the turbochargers. If the gas version and the hybrid have both been used for high-speed driving or hill climbing, I don't know why idling times are identified for the gas version only. Any ideas?

Unless they have recirculating pumps(some sports cars do, but dont think Tundras do) to cool the turbos down. Our hybrid I cant control the idling since I would let it run 20-30 sec before shutting it off, but it shuts off on its own. Good Synthetic oil is your friend as far as turbos go.

Maybe it's just that hybrid can't really be controlled to let it "idle" so Toyota kind of just gave up on this point?

Ps I'm a big idler, warm up my truck for 5+ min and cool down for a couple min

I’m curious on this as well. Is there a separate electric water pump or something on only the hybrid model? It should have the same idle time requirements as the non-hybrid if it doesn’t have some kind of additional oil or water cooling capability….??

It could be that with the HV system, less power is directly needed from the engine and turbos. The reduced stress on the turbos can have them run cooler and with the additional output from the HV system, it would be easier to have ecu programmed logic for cool down strategy.

Perhaps as the hybrid engine runs it also turn the oil pump on the engine. Both motors are joined at the transmission.
