My 2020 Tundra has given me very few issues the past 111000 miles, but just recently under light acceleration or moderate hill climbing I get surging and now power. Making passing vehicles not only impossible but dangerous. Same goes for freeways. I had a code come up for the Mass Airflow Sensor not reading so I changed it out. After changing it I got even more codes P043F, P2419, P043E, P2402, & P2401. As well as a trailer break error ( factory trailer break accessory) traction control light and pre collision system malfunction.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any information regarding repairs? I can make most repairs myself with little to no issue I just need to get to the bottom of the issue.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome. Nice to hear 111k already on a 2020.

Based on those codes, sounds like charcoal canister IMO. Do you top off when you filling up gas? The trailer break error, traction control and pre collision are probably just popping on since CEL is on.

Did you replace the MAF with an OEM part? Or some aftermarket from the local parts boys?

Get a proper diagnosis-don't start throwing parts at it. Did you test the MAF or just replace it?

Did you get the fuel pump recall on your truck?

I've suspected the charcoal canister a little bit, it has been an issue for me on previous vehicles. I work in agriculture so I typically do 100k miles and then trade, but I don't like the new ones.

MAF was diagnosed by the dealer, at the time no other codes were present. After replacement with the OEM part roughly 1 hour till the other codes came up. I was short on time and I don't regularly stop on the throttle so it took a while for me to notice that the issue wasnt resolved.

I wasn't aware there was a fuel pump recall. I'll look into that one. I never received a letter.

*update* Truck was not included on the recall.

I wonder if the MAF that was used to replace was faulty.

Dumb question, but did you inspect it and make sure everything was securely plugged in? Maybe even try disconnecting the batter for 15 minutes to let it reset and see what it does.

Found this thread that seems to cover the issue we both seem to be having. Will try topping off the tank and resetting the ECU before moving to replace parts. But based on the descriptions, fairly confident about the next steps. -

    *update*

I took an hour and pulled the charcoal canister from above the fuel tank and allowed it to dry out for a few days inside as I didn't need my pickup right away. After a little tinkering with the Evap Leak Detection pump I realized that it is a normally closed device and mine was stuck open. Went on oriely's and found the same pump but got 2014-2018 tundras and not the 2020. They could have it for $85 less and 4 days sooner than the local dealer could get me the oem. Removed the gascap and cleaned it out with brake clean and let it dry off completely before putting it back on. Once everything arrived I installed it, cleared codes, removed battery and connected the positive and negative of the vehicle together to allow any residual voltage to return to ground. After all of that my issue is solved. I have plenty of power no surging and she's ready to go another 10k miles before my new pickup comes in.

Thank you everyone for the help and suggestions. My conclusion for this project is that the evap detection pump was stuck open all the time instead of being closed when the vehicle is off and regulating when running not allowing the tank to maintain a balanced pressure.

Hope my struggles helps anyone else in the future. I'll post the evap detection pumps part number when I get a chance so others can know that it does work on a newer vehicle.

Just a heads up. On my 2018 SR5 I had the fuel pump replaced. It wasn't part of the recall. But it just sounded fuel starved.

New Chevy 2500 LTZ. I've loved my Toyota but it has been my work pickup and I need something that can pull a gooseneck. I've had 2 pickups for enough time now. I'd rather just daily drive a new one for work and play.
