My tundra is a little loose

So my truck has a lot of hard hard non maintenance miles from the previous owner. I Can feel she like to sway and is a little loose at higher speeds above 55mph I have new tie rod ends, sway bar bushings that I anm gonna install and rack and pinion bushings. Besides an alignment what else should I look at maybe new leaf springs too? Since she bottoms out with only a little weight in the back? because I’d like to tighten her up and make her ride almost like new. She does have new front struts and rear shock absorbers along with newer lower ball joints . Her Milesis at 355,xxx hard miles.

 

If you can't verify for certain they are OEM you should strongly consider doing them again.

Your allignment could be part of your issue especially if your numbers are way off.

 

New Shock absorbers.

OE are ok; lots of aftermarket choices to improve on the OE ride. I purchased one of my vehicles with around 80k on the clock and it swayed and floated a little on the test drive. Felt loose. I knew it needed new shocks and didn’t bother trying to get the dealership to fix it; they had just inspected everything and it “passed with flying colors”.

Got it home, put it up on Jack stands and sure enough both rear shocks are done - one so bad that it moves 2 or 3 inches with zero resistance before making a half hearted effort to resist more movement. It was caked in shock oil and road grime. I put OE shocks in the rear and the inexpensive Eibach’s up front and the sway/wiggle/looseness almost completely disappeared.

I could tell the alignment was out a tick, too, so I had it aligned and it’s darn near perfect.

For lower balljoints specifically, only OEM is OK. You don't want to be part of the thousands-long list of guys posted here or on Facebook with their front wheel snapped off. Aftermarket DOES NOT make LBJs that are stout enough to handle the high stress. Not even Moog, and I was a Moog fanboi up until their quality went to shit 10-15 years ago, as they began outsourcing to others.

YES, this LBJ thing sounds like BS if you don't know better. NO, it's not exaggeration. There's a reason people make stickers like this. It's not a joke, it's not a fad, it's the truth. If you made the mistake of not using OEM LBJs, with fresh bolts, it's in your best interest to pull whatever you installed and replace with OEM. The risk of failure is too high with aftermarket.

That said, take 10 minutes to read this thread. It'll talk about alignment numbers, suspension and whatnot. If you want to stick with stock ride heigh, Bilstein 4600 front and rear will get you back near an OEM ride. Drifting on road can be alignment issue, but check your rack bushings ... hell, check all rubber bushings on the truck from the steering rack out to the lower shock mounts, upper and lower control arms, etc. Wiggle things around and look for play. Likewise, check the steering shaft for play.

Thank you thank you thank you. I will be putting oem lbj on her soon because there are moog on the lower and upper . I’ll also be wiggling her around to see whatever else is loose on her. Thank you again

It's a good read, just make sure you read that b*tch a few times it can get a little cornfusing. Factory, OEM whatev....they last because of the shit they were built with. It's kinda like trying to compare some J's to a Pair of Voits when ya wanna hoop...just go with tried and true when possible.

The steering on mine felt darty and hard to keep centered, although I had no pull left nor right. This happened after I leveled it with 5100's at top setting. Someone suggested JBA upper control arm and he was spot on. Once installed, I had the left caster dialed to 2.9 and the right to 3.4 degrees. The difference was like day and night.

 

Wasn't your info that was all good info. Just the variances in different years torques etc. That could make it some what confusing. All the questions are there now to make it less fortunately.
