Had the same experience with my '21 Tacoma. After a couple of months of waiting, I started pestering the salesperson - regularly. It seemed to pay off because the dealership made good on a second key (6-MT chipped key), and then I got a third one from Toyota a couple of months later.

I got a 2023 Tundra Platinum in October just one key fob. Dealer says Corporate will issue when they have them. Sounds like Toyota has a problem.

Anyone know if other Toyota key fobs can be programmed to our trucks? For example, I had a 23 platinum that I traded for a 23 1794. I am expecting a key for the platinum and the 1794 from Toyota. Can I have the key for the platinum programmed for the 1794?

Just got our new 2023 sienna, same thing 1 fob

but I ordered one and had them program it , 400 bucks. Kinda lame you can just easily buy one but they won’t just give you two. Oh well , not a fan of only 1 fob, that doesn’t work for us

Th real question here: has anyone who received only 1 fob at purchase got their second fob from Toyota yet?

Going into 4th month and no second FOB. Think its time to start calling Toyota ....................................................this should be a fun process :(

Just got off the phone with Toyota. 800-331-4331 Told this summer. Hmm. Received a case number.

My recommendation: Each of us file complaints with your respective State's attorney General office and if possible NTSB.

Toyota continues sales of new vehicles at the expense of existing customers with the safety risk of us becoming stranded due to malfunctioning Key FOB.

well i dont expect a 2nd fob for around 6 months. but its really not an issue for us since its the wife's truck and i drive a 4runner. only time i drive the tundra is when we are together and she expects me to drive instead of her. she is of the mindset the male should drive when together.

i think she does that so she can play on her phone while i drive.

I bet you can find a work around since they are in stock to buy. If you got an extended warranty, check and see if it covers key replacement and just tell them you lost a key. I always get key replacement in my warranties, just in case something happens.

Maybe others can try this work around and see if it works. I intend on trying when I get my truck.

it won't, they are going to tell you they need to tow the truck in to program the new key. You cant program it without the truck

I didnt want to mess with all that BS for 400 bucks and said the hell with it.

how does that work if they know you only got 1 fob and you lost your only fob? how did you drive the vehicle to get to the dealer?

hopefully you drive up in your 2nd vehicle :)

I was just talking with my dealer about this, you have to tow it in as you can't drive without a fob. Thats partially why I said screw it and just bought another one. if we lose it or it doesnt work, you have to tow in and then still buy another fob.

Purchased my 1794 Ed jan 25th and was told last week it would be this summer before 2nd fob available. Gave up and called my dealership parts dept and got a second fob. Truck currently at dealership getting it programed which includes cutting new key. Total cost $472 :(

Leaving the state next week for vacation and decided being without a second fob to risky.

Called Toyota and asked about reimbursing me. She was adamant that Toyota would NOT reimburse me. She said a letter would be coming out this summer to take to my dealership for a 2nd fob, at no cost to me.

I can only imagine what that’s going to be like with 6 or 7 months of Toyota Tundra owners going in with letters for a remote and servicing to have them programmed. Those dealers are going to take some heat over that!

Tundra in for first service today, service manager said that Toyota is going to start producing more fobs shortly and I will receive my fob soon, likely in April. Then bring in it for programming.

I'm too broke after buying this rig to afford mods.
Bought my 1794 on March 18th. One fob, dealer had no ETA on a second one.

Truck was built March 1, so still no change to the "shortage" situation.

I will start my post as I have several others; I love my new Tundra but am disappointed in my dealer (on many issues) and absolutely shocked at the horrible communication, follow-up, business processes, and execution by Toyota. This key fob is just one more example: I just read all five pages of comments, everyone being told different answers about when we will get out second fob, no one commenting (except one poster, who, like me, called Toyota) on being to get anything like a definitive answer on timing; nothing in writing that has your name nor your specific truck identification on it is available (trust me, I have made many attempts to get something in writing, no go); we all paid for it, but have no guarantee of when or even if we will get it; etc., etc.

On this issue and the Tonneau cover recall (no fix, no timeline available), I am particularly shocked. Toyota’s horrible communication, planning and execution is a total shock to me. They now have well over $1,500 worth of accessories/components that I paid for on my new truck completely unavailable to me; and there is no plan, no commitment from them on when I will either get my money back or the components I purchased returned to service. I understand completely that $&/# happens. But the horrific communication and follow-up by a company as significant as Toyota is truly shocking and unfathomable. I know I have tended, in my mind, to give them a bit of slack on these and several other issues because I love my truck so much. But their service is horrible.

After several months and many attempts, I remained unable to get a straight answer nor anything in writing from my dealer; so I called Toyota Corporate Customer Service on 3/11/23 about the key and several other issues. They assigned a case number and said a case worker would return my call within three business days. After six business days without a return call, I called them. They said my case worker would call within two days. Two days later she called. She verified my information and issues and said she would call me back in a few days. I pressed for answers on my issues. The only response was related to the key fob. She said they planned to start a campaign to supply second key fobs this summer but couldn’t give me a specific date nor anything in writing. She said she’d call me back on the other issues. March 22, I am still waiting on the return call. It truly pains me to say this as I love my truck and want to believe Toyota is a super solid company, but their customer service, follow-up, business processes and communication are objectively horrible. If I had not experienced it myself, I would of NEVER believed it. Horrible.

i understand the situation but my case overall outside the fob issue its a meh. its the wife daily driver and i have my own vehicle. she doesnt carry around my fod or vice versa.

i mean compared to the 3 big and how many customers where/are still waiting after a year for features they paid for and still not working waiting for ford to get chips to enable them, at least toyota isnt selling vehicles without features paid for and expect you to wait a year.

i've seen some posts that the owner bought and sold a vehicle 1-1.5 yrs later and they still havent gotten the chips yet.

None of this computes. You get one key with your new truck. Toyota can’t tell you when your other key will be available. It’s literally available at the dealership parts counter, but you can’t have that one. You can pay another $400 for it? What? If you’re buying a new truck and the key is available at the dealership, make them give you a second key? Are we that bad at negotiating?
