    Good day all!

2016 Tundra with the 5.7 flex. The truck runs great but has a rough idle at times. I suspect the throttle body could use a cleaning but am seeing conflicting information on how to go about it. I see where it's recommended to NOT push the throttle plate open by hand as it will require the computer to be reset. Other "how to's" do not mention this at all. Is there a difference in approach if the TB is removed or not?

    Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I always thought that throttle body cleaning was something that is rarely needed, but dealerships love to charge people for it.

Have you thrown a bottle of fuel system treatment in the tank? I recommend Berrymans B12 Chemtool

Yeah....Ran a couple of bottles of BG 44k through it with little to no change.

Looking in the TB, I can see some goo and grime that needs to be cleaned out.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    Easily done.
I’ve taken mine off twice for cleaning and other work, including a little porting (lightly) and polishing the first time.

Here and here are some of the write ups.

Simply put, just disconnect the battery, unplug the connector, then unbolt it.
While it’s apart, you can trim out the screen and do the throttle body bypass (see my first link above).

I guess I'm missing the part about the throttle body bypass. I cleaned the throttle body, polished it up quite a bit and I'm shocked with the improvement.

You absolutely can push open the throttle plate. What is recommended is to do it slowly. The issue is the motor. Just clean it with a normal throttle body cleaner and take it easy when letting the plate open and close.

@Rockslide read this thread and quoted post above. FYI - This is the tuning and performance sub forum.
