When towing I was getting another 1mpg, so say during most taxing usage you get up to 10% more range, that's 10% costs, if you use $5000 of fuel a year, that's $500 a yr, if you keep truck for 10years, the gears just paid itself and increase safety factor when under load.

I sent my 3rd member and front diff to Ken @ http://gearinstalls.com/ , he charged around $1700 back in 2021, he was the most knowledgeable and careful person I've ever spoken with, he documented every step of the way and I cannot stress how amazing the transaction was with him, I would even reach out to him to see if he can offer a complete package, then all you need is to swap out the front diff and 3rd member, which should not take more than 4-5 hours.

I'm in NJ -- Shop was in Pennsylvania
Nitro 5.29 Gears + complete kit $1,360 (I had to order gears through them - would not allow me to find my own and bring them {warranty issue})
Labor + Break In + 500 Mile Fluid Flush - $2,500 (I thought it was higher end but compared to shops around me it was okay {still not great})

What sold me on the shop I picked, was the customer service and that I've see them do videos / reviews about re-gearing Toyota's before, so I knew they had knowledge and experience.

Truck drives great, no noise. Pulls like a mule. rpm around 65 is 2100-2200. MPG is slightly up -- a lot of city driving during weekdays then I cruise to the shore or mountains on weekends and it does shine well there.

    10/10 would do it again.

In MA, used Mitchel Differential in Shrewsbury. Charged me ~2700 in labor, IIRC. That included addressing the Power Trax Grip Pro tolerance issue as well.

All in, I was about $5k deep. Zero regrets.

5.29's for sure! I was on 37s so it made sense but after that experience I would do 5.29 on 35's as well. If you're going to regear just go straight 5.29. I did my own install with the gearinstalls.com as guidance and other than shipping issue (wrong gears and damaged packaging) and noise issue with Nitro gears I was very happy. I will now regear any vehicle that I own with tires larger than stock.

Gear install is one thing I don't wanna mess with since I don't understand backlash etc.

Mainline Overland in West Chester. Would use them again for virtually anything but they’re 45 minutes away with traffic. Was able to have them lock my keys in the truck and my dad and I snag it at 4 am in the morning to make it easier.

It’s a week long process. Possibly longer. That’s my only negative. I was told a week. Called Friday and was told they needed it over the weekend (July 4th weekend so they were closed Monday too). They didn’t have the first 50 miles of heat cycles done yet. (They won’t allow you to do it on your own. They have to do the first few to make sure it was done right) Was able to pick it up Wednesday morning 4 am. Was not fun not having my truck for an extra 4 days. I had to drive a lot to do break in and flush before going to lake George for a long weekend.

But again, now having it done with no noise and everything else seemingly to be fine. 10/10. They did fit me in for my flush at 7 am the day I was leaving for Lake George which made up for the delay.

Just make sure they price match the gears. I was originally told $1,900 for the 5.29 master set. (Non cryo nor rem polished)

they also did my dirty deeds exhaust, ras hd, and my fox 2.5 dsc on every corner. No issues. Rides like a cloud.

Loved the write-up. How's your LSD holding up? I have one but never installed it.

Thanks! Unfortunately I sold the truck before getting any appreciable wear on the lsd. For the few snow covered roads and offroad trips it went on it worked very well. I was concerned about how it would interact with the factory traction control system but it integrated flawlessly and while it's not a locker it certainly made the truck feel like a tank on 37s crawling cross ruts that would have gotten my old 4runner waving opposite tires in the air spinning.

I think the above from keith pertains only to second gens, I am assuming 1st gens are a completely different animal as they dont offer 4.56 for the 10.5 rear end.

I have 4.88s and get a faint whine at 60-65mph. Does anyone else experience this? I dont get it before or after that range. Also i get way worse gas mileage than before the regear. (My truck had 4.10 stock)

Nitro gears? I keep hearing they'll humm or whine. My stock gears do it... already used to it. Did you adjust your speedo?

I have revolution gears. (They're also REM polished, if that makes a difference) No i was thinking about getting hypertech as it states it corrects the speedometer and part throttle but they dont sell to California as i guess it will make the truck not pass emissions regulations or somthing? idk

According to this chart, you were better off with 4.10s if you were looking for optimum gas mileage.

No speedo calibrator adjusts throttle. That's a Pedal Commander sorta thing.

I'm aware of what they say as I have one, but real-world experience, I haven't felt a difference. I'm also tuned and I have a Commander (I didn't change any settings before or after the calibrator installation). The tune very well may have accommodated shift point changes.

I went based off of the chart that was on revolution gears website and that one had 4.88 as best for daily drivers. It might need a tune as i have noticed it lingers on gears a little longer than before

Also, don't forget MPG gets hurt not just by tire diameter. Truck is now sitting higher than stock and thats on tire size alone, any lift further contributes to the reduction. Tire width is yet another mpg slasher, 35x10.5 will get better economy than anything wider. So you have 3 factors (weight not thrown into the equation) reducing it.

While onboard MPG readings can be fairly accurate, truth is, they're not without proper calibration, you could fill it up and then find a good testing ground to manually calculate it. But hey, the upside is, it is now more capable and better looking ;)
