I started the wrap with a spot of Super Glue Gel on the underside of the grab handles and ended the wrap the same way. They've held up for several years.Resized_20230114_060555.jpg Resized_20230114_060608.jpg Resized_20230114_060634.jpg

There is a simple warp method out there that locks the ends. I think there might even be a diy on this site. 99% reversible. The 1% is because of the color transfer the paracord leaves behind.

Drove it on a few trips throughout the day. Definitely still burping some air as the level dropped in the reservoir. I really need to invest in one of those burping funnel deals.

I did realize that I forgot to drain the transmission warmer. I guess this is why the coolant change interval drops to 5 years after the original fill, no way to get it all.

    Pretty things
I used a method which is easily and quickly removed for use as needed. I have since shortened the tails, but they have been a nice little upgrade.

    20221212_114701.jpg

Also looks nice and produces a nice ridge for added comfort and grip.

Sam's club has a deal running on M1 5w30. Got enough to do both of these oil hogs.
    PXL_20230114_213953812.jpg

Also jumping to to 5w30. Going against spec for the first time in my life.

Edit: What is up with my truck? It took almost 9 quarts to bring up to the full line on the dipstick. 8 quarts only got it half way between full and add.

    I've always used 5W-30!

The 0W-20 is to maximize fuel economy, for what, a 0.2 mpg increase?

In my opinion, for an engine with a lot of miles (and thus likely wear between moving parts), a slightly thicker oil makes sense, as the film strength is stronger to fill larger gaps.

Now if you live in upper Alaska or similar, might want to stick with the 0W....

While fuel economy and emissions might figure highly into Toyota's recommendations for a 20 weight oil does it not give you any concern that one reason they don't recommend a 30 weight oil is because it might be too viscous to properly service some of those hard to reach spots that modern engines are littered with?
I'm all for jacking with the winter grades but if oil companies were concerned about using lower viscosity oil in older engines then it strikes me as odd that they'd bother making 20 weight oils specifically for older high mileage engines.
I don't know what the previous owner used but since the 80k when I bought her, mine's had nothing but 0w-20 long life oil and she's rapidly approaching 250k with no smoking, oil usage or grumbling guts, make of that what you will.

Just changed my 08’s oils and filter today. She took the required 7.5 quarts.

From what I gather 07-09’s take 7.5 and 10-13’s onto 2.5gens(14-21) take more. Things get strange with these mid year refreshes.

Running for the first time 5w30. We shall see but so far the timing chains are a lot quieter.
TRD oil filter with Amsoil signature series fully synthetic. Lots of $ every 5k. But still less expensive than an engine!

Added new AGP rims. The old rims were missing all of the hub covers since the tire shop broke three out of four of them…

    My reasons are my own.

Kidding, here is what it came down to, after stressing about it myself.

    - This bit in the owner's manual. I tow in the summer. I started worrying about how well that w20 was holding up as the hours went by at 3000rpm.
    Screenshot_20230115-153820.jpg

    - It is well documented on this site that this engine is only spec'd for 0w20 in the good ole USofA. Probably Canada?

    - Antidotal evidence of a quieter valvetrain. If these engines have a weak spot, which is relative, it's the valvetrain. Again, all relative.

I still question all of it just it a bit, however.

Pulled a nice old lady with a disabled vehicle out of a turn lane, on a fairly major parkway, just under a mile to her house and made $50 in the process . Told her I didn't want or need her money then I found it in the back of my truck when I got home and was packing up my rope.

    Some.
Gave her a bath in the rain, then drove back up the mountain to find mud the consistency you would see from a freshman who ate $30 worth of Taco Bell and drank a case of Miller Lite.

Lubricated the tailgate hinges because it almost wouldn't open... There might be a better way to do this but I sprayed the parts I couldn't reach with garage door lubricant and covered everything I could reach with white lithium grease. At least for the time being the tailgate latch opens easily and reliably.

Don’t sell it to Carmax, you’ll make up to $6K more selling it on your own.

Does anyone know if I can fit an OEM Tundra front bumper on a 2nd gen Sequoia? I like the look of the Tundra bumper better. Just not sure if I can get it to fit properly. Thanks!

Yeah, thats about what I figure too, but I'm really not feeling messing with it. I am gonna pull off the Snugtop and sell that on my own though.

They offered me 21,500. Got dinged on my cracked windshield and tear in headliner. They didn't care about the broken driver mirror or the exhaust mount which makes an obnoxious rattle at idle.

Might have been a little higher if it was 4WD, but if it was, I probably wouldn't be getting rid of it.

True. Ive been tossing the idea around of ditching the CM and getting a DCLB 4x4 for the bed space and ability to sleep two in the back comfortably.
