Yeah - my vent is no more than 2 feet total from back of dryer straight up and then 90 out to the outlet, and I still pull the dryer and clean it out once a year.

 

Replaced the tank fill valve on my powder bath toilet last night because it stopped shutting itself off on Tuesday morning.
And then just before bed had the slip-joint drain piping from my garbage disposal to the wall connection pop loose and had my dishwasher draining all of it’s water into the cabinet under the sink…


Got everything mopped up, got the drain pipe all reconnected, got a fan drying out the floor (we caught it right away, so not much got under the cabinet).

 

Messy. That sucks. Hopefully the damage is minimal for you

 

I was paranoid about that when I built so i planned a straight shot outside from the dryer. 8" of ducting and I still check it

 

so true. I will be cleaning once a year also. I am going to redo the floor in the laundry room soon so I will change out to the mag vent. @RainMan_PNW thanks for all the good info

My wife used to shake her head when I would close our main water valve when gone more than one night.
After hearing stories like this and fridge water lines blowing, she's on board.

I bet that's exactly what happened. Previous owners had this siding installed in 2015. They did a shitty job on an outside electrical plug too. Also didn't install step flashing around the chimney. What's crazy is that I can see pretty far back in that hole and don't see any vent just laying there disconnected.

Here are some pictures. The 3' feet of flex dryer vent is an easy fix. I just need to trim it. It dumps into a hole directly behind the dryer. Laundry room on left, pantry is on the right and behind the pantry is the exterior wall.

I do have attic access but I'm guessing it isn't wise to fight gravity and send the vent up the wall, into the attic, and out?

I'm honestly wondering if it would be better to relocate the dryer to the basement exterior wall. I really think my wife would hate that. What a cluster F...

You want your vent line to be as short as possible. Sounds like 10’ to the right in that one picture is the shortest route. If you can get the duct fed in from outside you’re winning because that lets the direction of the fittings with best for the direction of airflow. Fishing an elbow down through the hole to connect into the straight is going to be fun, but not impossible. Might look into using that mag vent as a flange at the floor to anchor things.

like i said - don’t use screws that will poke inside and trap lint. Keep the inside as smooth as possible. Use heavy duty wide foil duct tape for the joints where you can.

 

Ours goes into our screened in side porch which is also my workout room. I bought this a while back to try to cut back on the lint that I get out there but I have yet to put it on.

Upstate on my dryer vent situation. I removed the outside cover for a better look. The hole measures exactly 4" but I could make it a little bigger. Anyone got a tool suggestion for that?

There is no duct at all. If there ever was one, I can't see it. I see a lot of dryer lint resting on my HVAC ductwork. On a positive note, I can't see any mold. Not saying it isn't there but it looks good so far.









Here is how much I've pulled out of the floor so far. This is getting stranger by the minute. So far I'm unable to pull it completely out. I can feel it's hooked to something inside now. I don't know if I should cut it or not. Really need to see in the hole.

 

I use a multi tool with a circular saw attachment for such jobs.

Confirmed they have it dumping into nothing. Just a piece of duct that went into the floor.
Unbelievable. People suck. I went outside and had my wife stick a broom down the hole and shine a light. I can't even seen the broom and can barely see the light. It's not even a direct shot to the vent outside so it looks like my idea isn't going to work.








I know this isn't ideal but I wonder if one of these would work.

@FirstGenVol just a diy guy here too. That is definitely interesting and might we worth a try especially since you can clean it often. My question is where does all the condensation go?

Maybe that can be a short term solution till you are ready to tackle it all the way

 

Not my house but my neighbor, 82 years old, had 2 leaks at his toilet vent pipes. I'm not one for heights and his roof has a 6 in 12 pitch. It made fore a stressful Friday evening.

 

My money is they just ran the fucking flex out to your outlet in the wall and it came undone at some point (or got pulled off)

When it rains it pours... Just discovered a leak on my roof, by the sky light, and another by the boiler exhaust.... what are the odds I need a new roof or should I get patches.. Clay tile roof.. unknown when it was replaced, if ever, 30 year old house...

Also got a couple emails about needing to grab my ankles because my gas bill bout to double, as well as my electrical cuz they use Natural Gas at night.. so I may really need to look into solar, with a battery reserve in the near future...

 

Yeah, you'll be getting a lot of humidity in that little area.

What about cutting out the flooring in that area, put your vent in properly, then tiling it? Not the cheapest solution at all but if your washer ever leaks, your flooring is gonna be hurting.
