What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I want to know what kind of retard was met with the problem of splitting a light circuit and decided that the center was where a single set of wires should be split from.



fml thats grody.

I cant run it under the fan and through the headlight holes for both sides. But i dont have the bottom of the fan shroud, so it cant be taut.

i really dont like the look of connectors up front. Maybe tractor supply has the right grommets for a 3/4" hole.

 

it was the time, way easier to take your time and appreciate each stroke, instead of judging progress by the panel. Throw on the music and hours feel like minutes. Back when phones had headphone jacks.

 

31Dec22

1st work run for the 06. Picked up a chair-and-half, and ottoman for the wife about an hour away in town. Not a huge work load, hella stoked to have a 6ft bed again. Happy New Year errrbody!

 

Changed the oil and found no evidence of coolant in it as I was previously concerned about. Also topped off the front diff and really didn’t have to put more than a few teaspoons in it before it overflowed. This tells me the front diff leak isn’t severe and should last through the spring when I can change the seal.

Didn’t get to the vacuum lines before it started to rain so I’ll have to wait. Picked up a $1 bag of black zip ties at the dollar store for the new lines as well.

Did all this across the street so as not to be in HOA violation. Waved to the A-hole neighbors as I did my thing. So ghetto but legit in my town.

 

New OEM tailgate handle with beefier 2nd gen orange and purple clips. Raining right now, so tomorrow I'll install it.

 

2 problems with this. First of all, YES you ALWAYS scuff bare metal before coating. Scuffing gives the surface 'tooth' for the coat to grab onto. Problem #2 is acetone. Acetone leaves an oily film on bare steel that does not help adhesion, in my experiences. It's good for removing larger amounts of oil-based products, but thats because it is oil-based itself. I always try to use an oil/grease cutting water-based cleaner, thoroughly dry, and use a quality primer. Quality of primer is as important as quality of topcoat IMO. To be fair, I dont believe there is a coating available that would withstand the weight of a vehicle sliding on jagged rocks.

Yeah I like the captains chairs. The little console isn't so great. The size, but it also lacks power outlets, and rear drink holders and air vents.

 

I like denatured alcohol…….. to finish my metal before I paint it.

 

Yeah, it's a dumbass console. On top of the things you listed, It's not high enough to rest your arm on. Stuck with the gypsy ass tiny fold down arm rest. In other news, glad TCU won. Looking forward to watching Georgia putting it on these Ohio Frauds!

 

I'm okay with the armrest. As for the console, I just don't understand why it doesn't go all the way up to the dash, like all others. Bigger to the front would be better. I'm not sure I'd want it much taller without separating upper and lower compartments. Tall single container means digging to the bottom looking for shit. Also, it's already at max height for a woman to lay comfortably across for those long trips.

 

vey good cleaner. Acetone and alcohol are completely different. Most people don't know about denatured alcohol, and it's becoming more difficult to find.
Fun facts: It is also a great glass cleaner and useful to reduce surface tension. I use it in my airbrush paint reducer for less tip clogging and smooth flow

 

Bench seat armrest is sublime.

 

Yup. That's why my last step is always using a paint prep with lint-free towel. Duplicolor prep spray is perfectly fine in a pinch and is cheap enough. They also make wipes, but I found those too easy to miss a streak, and you're screwed later. With the spray can, you can totally coat the panel and wipe it 'til dry.

Havent done anything on the tundra today and probably wont for awhile since my surgery. But healing up slowly and felt well enough to play with my other truck today!

 

Well good news today. Got the vacuum lines done with just the 8 mm hose since one end was 8 mm and the other side was 10 mm for one of the lines. Luckily the 8 mm hose was easily stretchable over the 10 mm end. This also allowed me to reuse the hose separators with the exception of one of them.

Looks like I can return the unused 10 mm hose to Amazon.

The plastic tumor fits fair between the rad and rad support... i dont feel like its putting too much force on the top tank, its too snug to rattle, but i dont have to apply any force if i feed it in square.


or i could double sided tape it to the pad on top of the rad. I think i like this more. ?double sided high heat foam tape? I dont see temps on the generic foam tape.

the wire is rated to 105*C

 

I got the kit with a gift card, the rest will be easy, but this center splitter grinds my gears.

 

I ran the power wires for my front light bar lights through an opening low on the drivers side in front of the battery, could run the wire through there and leave that hydra pigtail splitter thingy on the cool side of the rad near the horns mounting location?

 

I'd have to hog out the holes to run across the lower crossmember, and light plugs have seals, but they'll be exposed. Above & in front of the rad hides the light plugs behind the headlight housings.

 

Yea had an injury from skateboarding over 10 years ago that bothers me from time to time especially when wrenching on the tundra. finally decided to get it checked out, had a fracture that never healed right. so got some wires and a bone graft to hopefully get it fixed! Had to translate your message, thanks for the kind words man! Should be a few months to recover, just in time for springtime camping!

 

Put a capture nut inside that hole in the rad support, and bolt it to that.

 

That's crazy! I have a back injury (rhomboid tear) from the short stint I had working for a catering company. One event had me carrying dozens of 6ft/8ft classroom tables the length of a football field and up a couple flights of stairs. 3 crew + 1 manager scheduled that day, 2 crew called in sick, so just me and the manager to do all the work, and you know that MF didn't lift a table. Was told to 'work through it', as a teenager I was just, like, "Uh, OK!"

Injury still flares up from time to time, feels like fire between my shoulder blade and spine. At this point, 3 decades later, I doubt there's even a point in having it checked out. I had insurance thru parents but no time and little money. I got an extra cut of tips that day due to 2 ppl out, but that only measured out to about $400. Wasn't worth it, in hindsight.

 

i can zip tie it to the wires already there. Might add some plastic to the lip where the wires will touch. But nothing should vibrate. My home automation buddy said he didnt think the regular foam tape would have a problem with underhood temps.

 

Thats rough getting an injury like that over one tough day at a job years ago as a teenager. hopefully it doesnt happen often and/or last that long. Yea after 30 years there probably isnt much they can do. However even me finally knowing exactly what my injury was, was worth it to me. Might not hurt to see what they can find if anything? But my wrist hurt me daily, if yours is just once in awhile it probably isnt worth it.

 

Yeah, daily pain is another thing entirely. Mine ... I get a flare up maybe once a year? Certain types of lifting or activity cause it. Last time I had a flare-up was last Christmas, I had to help dad take down some trees on his property. Something about wielding a chainsaw overhead flared it up.

I'm sure I tore something, and it's covered over in scar tissue. If so, they could probably cut out the scar tissue, re-stich the connective tissue together, and send me through 6-10 weeks of rehab. But the only time I'm ever motivated to do it is when it flares up again, and that usually goes away within a couple (2-4) days, week or two at the most.

 

Ditched the stupid Scotch-Loks the camper shell place install place put in. No wonder they are no longer in business. I was blowing fuses on reverse and this brake light wasn't really working.
