Trying to figure out a way to improve fuel mileage. Are the TRD performance air filters a legit way to possibly pickup a mile or two per gallon on the 3.5 TT? Any other ideas to improve MPGs?

With all the controls on these engines these days, you may only see a difference if your current filter is real dirty, dyno testing results would be nice . Maybe, but probably not.

Filters wont make a difference in mpg. Your stock filters are not taxed just cruising around. Additionally, most intakes that claim to improve MPG's are doing it by tricking the PCM into running leaner, but that is done by changing the flow characteristics around the mass air flow sensor, which the filters wont do.

The AFE intake does this on my Lexus GX. After installing my intake and datalogging it, my Mass air flow readings were actually about 10% lower. I emailed AFe about it and they said this was intentional.

"the ECU has a failsafe built in so t you will not lean the engine out too far that it will hurt it. the engines from the factory run a little too "fat", rich when they leave the factory, We just add additional air to lean it out and make it run more fuel efficient and you get a little extra horsepower to boot....."

I think the turbos are marginally louder but that could also be wishful thinking.
