Like this. This is what the previous owner sent me when I was thinking about buying it. Starts, and then dies. Sounds like a fuel issue to me, which is a common problem for these cars. If you want to follow along on this car like I post up on a build thread, add this link to your bookmarks. That takes you to a Subaru outback forum.

Anyways, if you follow that link above you'll see all my research that I've done on it which is quite a bit. Anyways, for those who are too lazy to click a link, and use their brain/eyes... Here's a video showing a common problem with the fuel pump. Some kind of strainer cap thing breaks due to an expanding O-ring. Both are easy to get to. Just no ciggy wiggys.

I spent some time with the Subie in the Tent of pain today.
    20221219_093719.jpg

Here's pictures of the head gasket on the drivers side. Cylinder 2/4. It appears to already be some sort of MLS gasket.
    20221219_094146.jpg
    20221219_094128.jpg

So if so, that's a HUGE win!!!

Popped the timing belt cover off on the drivers side. Yep. Just as I thought. Needs a timing belt.
    20221219_095113.jpg

I also pulled the passengers side air box/tube assembly/thingamajig off, and pulled both of those spark plugs. Cylinder 1, and 3. They looked good, but didn't take pictures.

I don't know what these doodle danglies are dangling off the air tubes. They don't have openings, and are "sealed." I can't fathom what they're for. They are pre-engine air filter.
    20221219_100540.jpg

I also don't know what this box is for either. The intake tube goes to it also, but again this box is "sealed." No vacuum lines or anything like that attach to the intake, or if there are supposed to be, there weren't. I can't figure it out myself. Any thoughts?
    20221219_100630.jpg

Also, the intake tube is electrical taped up. Looks like a bunch of cracks all up on the "flex" part of it. I'm sure I can get a new one on rockauto. I gotta make sure this bitch will reliably start first.

    20221219_100544.jpg

Anyways... I heard some barking from tex right outside the tent, and some heavy sounding thumps in the ground. I'm thinking "Aw fuck, it's a God damn big foot." I unzip real slow, and poke my head out. Didn't see anything. Didn't hear anything. Kinda odd. Went outside, and looked around. Didn't see anything. Didn't hear anything. Finally I heard tex on the otherside of the hill barking. I come up over the hill, and see this...

    20221219_153641.jpg

Tex just doing his thang. Love that dog.

Those dangledoodles on the intake are resonation chambers. Each one quiets a certain frequency range, like the hemholtz resonators on DD exhaust.

She's driving whatever I'm not. I usually drive crackie on days I know she needs a car. Hoping this will help free up her mind, and not feel as trapped here. She's pretty much written off her D21. I still want to fix it, but funding...
