A pressure gage is cheaper than hundreds of dollars in sensors that the federal government mandated being installed because Ford Explorer owners weren't responsible enough maintain their tire pressure.

    be careful!
fyi, some places won't work on your tires if your car has a dysfunctional TPMS. it may vary from state to state or even store to store ... idk

I will need new tires before winter and asked a hypothetical question at Costco if they can remove the sensors if the battery is low or if the sensors are gone bad ... they said they will not change the tires and have to get the TPMS functional if the car came with TPMS!

i need to let some air out and test the damn thing. if a warning light is on at -%15 (or better) below the reset mark (e.g. warning at 30psi from original 35psi) then i will be happy otherwise its just another gadget! i can look at my tires and if they are %15 low i can tell. However, it can come in handy while driving since u can't stop every 10 minutes and kick the tires ... lol

if I recall correctly in some cars you have to replace the entire sensor and can't access the battery (again may vary depending on cars) and I haven't done any research ....

I work in a shop, if we remove a sensor we risk getting fined $10,000 per sensor removed.
Supposedly some states already check tpms operation as part of yearly inpection.
I know it seems like a dumb system but it's very usefull. I'm a tech and I like having it on my vehicles. Wife doesn't look at tires.

This happened to me about 3 weeks ago. I just got done working on other people's cars for 12 hours crazy busy day. Run the he'll out of there jump in my tundra pull 3 feet out of my parking spot and boom tpms light. Jump out right rear tire is almost flat. Had a big bolt in my tire pulled it in shop patched tire then got to go home.
Not like tpms saved my life or anything but possibly saved me from ruining a $200 tire by driving on it low

My daily running pressure is less than the door and I have no TPMS light.

My TPMS light usually pops on if I go wheeling and air down to 25 or less.

I think that you air your tires to where you want them, then set the TPMS with the button on the lower dash. There's more info in your owners manual.

I don't have TPMS on my 16', and love it.

I dread every time the temps get cold out in my Lexus. My TPMS system is always going off even when I'm good on pressure.
